It’s almost the end of May and yet I haven’t been able to share yet how we celebrated Mother’s Day this year. I was supposed to write this post over a week ago but things started changing fast around here and just thinking about being a mother made me incredibly emotional.

But I’ll tell you about that in another post. For now, in an effort to record the last Mother’s Day we had in our “old normal” family situation, here’s what happened…

It started out like a pretty normal day. Mother’s Day or Father’s Day have never been too much of a big deal to us. We just had plans to go out and have dinner with our kids. The only thing different this time was that we asked my mom to come with us. And off we went to Bonifacio Global City.

It had been a while since my mom was at BGC so we decided to take the Hop On, Hop Off bus just to show her around.

After the tour, we decided to explore what was happening at Bonifacio High Street. My mom, as usual, asked me to take lots of photos she can share on Facebook. This is just one of them.

Then we chanced upon the Mother’s Day activities sponsored by the Lifestyle Network, Working Mom magazine and Glyderm, called #LoveYouMom.  One of the activities was a free photo booth. Of course, we didn’t pass up the chance to have our photos taken there as well.

The nice people over at the Lifestyle Network gave my mom and I one rose each as well, which I thought was really sweet. There was also a short performance by singer JR. I wasn’t able to take very decent photos of it though because there were just way too many people crowding in front of me.

By the time we decided to have dinner, most of the restaurants in the area were already full of people. We ended up in Bon Chon, which was also full but at least the customer turnover was faster.

Bon Chon gave me a free dessert as a Mother’s Day treat. Wee!!! We went home full.

Then that was when the kids gave me their homemade gifts. I wasn’t able to take photos of all of them but there was one made by Ziya that I was able to share on my Instagram account. She made several Mother’s Day coupons, which I can supposedly redeem any time I want. The coupons include the following: Sparkling Clean Dishes, You Deserve a Hand, You Deserve a Break, A Big Hug, and Help with Laundry. It was really so creative of her.

It was a very simple, no fuss celebration, made extra special because my mom was with us. So, it was more than enough for me. I had no idea then though that motherhood for me would change just less than a week after. You’ll learn why soon.

How did you celebrate Mother’s Day?

  5. I don’t know what’s the problem with me. I didn’t get attached to my mom so I ignored that day. Maybe I could appreciate her when times come that I will also become a mother. Oh the coupon is so sweet. ^_^ It melts my heart. The last part about motherhood made me curious.

    1. Awww, sorry to hear that about you and your mom. Yes, usually being a mother makes us realize what our own moms have done for us. 🙂

  7. I have not been to BGC in a loooong time but what I remember about it is how it’s not as crowded as Makati. It looks like you had a time well-spent with family. It was also sweet of Bon Chon to give moms a treat on Mother’s Day.
