I made the decision to start working from home last June, when I found out that I was pregnant with my third child. Actually, at that point, I was also considering accepting a job from another company but could not because I had to go on bed rest for a while. Working from home was a mutual decision made by the hubby and I for the following reasons:
  1. My job was too stressful. We were scared it might affect the pregnancy. I was already forced to go on bed rest for a few days after I found out I was pregnant because I was experiencing contractions already.
  2. We wanted me to have the chance to spend more time with the kids. Having a full time job meant I had to be away from home for more than 12 hours a day.
  3. Having to go to work every single day has become more expensive since we moved to another city a couple of months back. The travel was also hard on me.
  4. The hubby and I wanted to spend more time with each other.
  5. We didn’t want to hire a nanny for the baby when he arrives and I plan to breastfeed him for a year so staying in a full-time job would be out of the question.
It wasn’t that smooth of a transition, however. I wasn’t used to not earning. But just after a month after I resigned, I got a project that would require me to just work from home. For two months, I did business plans for a U.S. – based consultancy firm. The job was fine but it had to end eventually since it was only project-based. Since then, though, I haven’t been lucky enough to find other work-at-home opportunities that consistently paid a lot. I have been signing up for blogging or writing opportunities but things are taking too slow. Also, since I’m pregnant I’ve been hesitant to sign up for writing jobs that have a specific deadline because I do not know exactly when I’m giving birth. So, since then, I’ve just been blogging and blogging and networking online. Now that I’m due to give birth any day now, I’m hoping more opportunities will start coming in. If you guys have any ideas I could try, don’t hesitate to let me know. Thanks!

  2. Hi Janice. Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. I hope that you will have a safe delivery. Is the baby boy or girl?

I’m also working from home since we don’t want to pay extra for nanny of our 5 children. I also signed up for blogging/writing opps but I guess they’re not working for me. I’ve found writing at HubPages to work for me and I’ve made a post about it in my blog. You may be interested since writing there is not time-constrained. If you need tips, let me know.
