Last August 1, we were invited for another #TelpadMovieNight by PLDT Home Telpad, this time for a special blocked screening of Guardians of the Galaxy at the Power Plant Cinemas in Rockwell.

We had been anticipating this day for weeks and were really so excited about it. As usual, on that Friday night, our plan was to head on to the screening right after picking Zoe up from school. Her class was expected to end two hours before the screening was supposed to start. Unfortunately for us, they were dismissed 40 minutes late already.

As if that wasn’t enough, it was Payday Friday so traffic was horrendous. As expected we were late by a few minutes. At least, it was only a few minutes. We barely had time to get our food, take photos (as in, I was only able to take 3-4 shots) and grab our seats (way, way, way at the back!) before the program began. It was hectic, to say the least.

What made me feel better was the fact that I won (yet, again!) in the raffle. Yay!!!! I’ve been really lucky with raffles lately. This time I won an SD card, which I actually really need now. PLDT Home Telpad also gave away some Guardians of the Galaxy notepads to my kids. Yay!

So, anyway, for those of you who are not familiar with Guardians of the Galaxy, here’s a short description (from IMDB).

GuardiansoftheGalaxy1

After stealing a mysterious orb in the far reaches of outer space, human Peter Quill is now the main target of a manhunt led by the villain known as Ronan the Accuser. To help fight Ronan and his team and save the galaxy from his power, Quill creates a team known as the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ to save the world. – Written by James Hake

What do we think about the movie? Well, it was so worth the trouble of going to the screening despite the hecticness. We are so glad we didn’t miss it.

I think it’s the perfect mix of action, drama and comedy rolled into one. It was super entertaining. The fight scenes are good but not gory. I love the dynamics of the cast composed of Chris Pratt (as Peter Quill), Zoe Saldana (as Gamora), Dave Bautista (as Drax), Bradley Cooper (as the voice of Rocket) and Vin Diesel (as the voice of Groot). They are all so funny but I find Groot the most adorable of all.

It’s easy to relate to the main characters even if they’re all supposed to be outcasts. While they’re all different from one another and came from different places, they bonded with the common goal of saving the universe and fighting for their lives. It sounds like such a cliche but there were really a lot of heartwarming scenes in this film.

Be warned though. You have to be wary of some of the language used in this movie because there were a few scenes with not so child-friendly language. So if you do decide to let your kids watch this, make sure that you’re around.

Oh, and I’m sure you’re also going to love the movie because of the soundtrack. I LOVE the soundtrack. It includes familiar songs such as Hooked on a Feeling by Blue Swede (which has been a fave song of mine since Ally McBeal days), I Want You Back by Jackson 5, Come and Get Your Love by Redbone, Ain’t No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell and lots more.

It was another fun #TelpadMovieNight with the fam bam thanks to PLDT Home Telpad! Thanks for the invite. Until the next movie! 🙂
