Traffic in Metro Manila has been extra horrendous lately, especially since it’s the Christmas season. Traveling from one place to another has become an unpleasant and challenging experience because of this. Driving can take hours and public transportation doesn’t help at all. So, what can you do when you don’t have the option of simply just staying home?

Well, one of the possible solutions is using a bicycle instead. Wait, before you think that riding a bicycle is not practical in Metro Manila, let me give you a few of their benefits first.

 It’s the healthier alternative.

Riding a bicycle is a good form of cardiovascular exercise that helps you burn calories, improve muscle tone and strengthens your body. But is gentler on the joints compared to other forms of exercise. Aside from that, riding a bicycle to work can give you more energy and help clear your mind, which will enable you to concentrate on your work tasks for the day.

It contributes to a greener world.

Riding a bicycle is also a good way to help Mother Nature as it doesn’t emit any pollutants or carbon gases. A bicycle does not require gasoline, thus, reduces the consumption of this resource and reduces one’s carbon footprint, which contributes to a greener environment.

 It’s less expensive.

Driving a car doesn’t only involve money in terms of gas expenses. The cost of maintenance is also high. Public transportation also costs a lot higher these days. Riding a bicycle can actually help you spend less because all you need to spend on is maintenance, which costs considerably less than maintaining a car.

The Taiwan Excellence Campaign

The Taiwan Excellence Campaign, which was recently launched in the Philippines, is introducing various brands of innovative foldable bicycles in the country in order to encourage bicycle riding and exercising. Strida, Tern, and Pacific are some of the brands that are being introduced. These brands aim to encourage more Filipinos to try riding bicycles as an alternative means of transportation, while helping Filipinos stay fit and save Mother Earth.

Here are a couple of bicycle models from Pacific.

Pacific Cycles New Classic Birdy

The Classic Birdy, which was discontinued in 2005, has become the top choice of folding bikes available in the market because of its unique, sophisticated design and excellent riding feel. The New Classic Birdy does not only have the vintage appearance of the original model, but is also equipped with improvement functions.

The main features includes redesigned oversize main frame for better rigidity, internal cable routing, and 17 degree handlebar for optimum riding position. It is available in navy blue and red, the first color options for the 1994 model! The New Classic Birdy is the ideal choice for people who can enjoy Birdy at more affordable price.

Pacific Cycles IFmove

The IFmove is more than just a folding bike, a commuter or a city bike; it’s a user friendly solution for the urban environment. Because usability is its highest priority, this bike rides, folds and wheels fast and instinctively – without compromising in performance or handling. In less than 2 seconds, the IFmove transforms into a convenient package, weighing no more than 12kg!

As the urban landscape changes, so can bicycles – that’s why the IFmove was created. Here are its features:

  • Full Aluminum frame with patented Integrated folding mechanism
  • Fold in 2 second
  • Roll after folded
  • 9 speed
  • 11.9kg
  • Size 145(L) x 40(W) x 95(H)cm,fold size 68(L) x 27(W) x 95(H)cm

What makes these bikes unique is the fact that they’re all sturdy, lightweight and foldable too! Never has biking been more appealing. So, even if you’re a small person, you will have no problems bringing and carrying these bikes around. You can now avoid the traffic easily and traveling within Metro Manila will become more pleasurable.

Plus, the fact that these bikes are foldable also solves problems on storage. You can also be assured of great quality when it comes to these products because that’s exactly what the Taiwan Excellence Campaign is all about. It’s all about bringing you an excellent lifestyle.

The Taiwan Excellence campaign, organized by Bureau of Foreign Trade of Taiwan (BOFT), and implemented by Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), is the symbol of quality that guarantees the superior value of Taiwanese lifestyle brands across Asia is now in the Philippines. Iya Villania-Arellano is the celebrity endorser of the Taiwan Excellence Campaign in the Philippines.
