The first and only time I have posted real updates about my pregnancy was way back in February when I first announced we’re having a baby. I’ve been meaning to write about my pregnancy journey but for the most part of February and March, I was so lazy and tired that I literally had to force myself to do anything. Now that I’m on my second trimester already though, I feel more energized and have been blogging like crazy during the past two weeks. So, I figured now is the perfect time to write a recap of the first trimester.

My first trimester of pregnancy was pretty normal in the sense that I had the usual symptoms. I had a pretty bad case of nausea. I got dizzy frequently. One time I almost passed out in the bathroom. I also couldn’t stay in front of my laptop for longer than 30 minutes at a time or else it would cause a dizzy spell. This was the main reason why I couldn’t blog much and decided to lie low on social media. Good thing, I stopped working during this whole trimester and so I didn’t have to worry about being late on my work deliverables.

I also vomited several times a day. My nausea also struck pretty much any time it wanted to, sometimes waking me up in the wee hours of the morning. It was so bad that I finally had to place a bucket on my bedside table so that I no longer need to run to the bathroom. Sorry, TMI! But, it was THAT bad. I also didn’t have any appetite and just ate because I had to. Everything pretty much tasted yucky and was put off by a lot of food odors so eating was a big challenge. It’s no wonder I didn’t gain any weight at all during the entire first trimester. I also had no real cravings. Every so often, I’d feel like I wanted to eat something like a salad or nachos but it didn’t happen frequently. It was so different from my past three pregnancies when I craved for Shakey’s thin crust pizza the entire first trimester.

Aside from that, I frequently had heartburn. It felt like I was throwing up acid. This was the first time this happened to me while pregnant. My OB-Gyne prescribed Maalox to help and thankfully, it did. By now I usually don’t get this anymore.

Also, just a week after my first prenatal check up, I suddenly felt some cramping and had some slight bleeding, which prompted my OB-Gyne to instruct me to go on complete bed rest for two weeks aside from taking medications. Although the urinalysis, ultrasound and pelvic exam didn’t show any reason for the cramping and bleeding, my OB-Gyne ruled it was a bacterial infection. Luckily, after taking the medications and the bed rest, the cramping and bleeding stopped and our baby remained healthy and safe.

The first trimester wasn’t all bad though. I just rested as much as I could and enjoyed this time in my life. During this point, my focus was really on just surviving the first trimester challenges. I knew from being pregnant before that I will usually start feeling better by the fourth month so I just pretty much waited excitedly for that.

There was one highlight though and it was seeing our baby for the first time through an ultrasound. I had the ultrasound during that time I had the cramping and bleeding when I was 7 weeks along. My OB-Gyne wanted to check the baby’s health to see if he/she was affected at all by anything in there. Turns out, our baby was really strong and healthy and his/her heart was beating fast as well. Here’s our ultrasound photo.

See our baby?
Our baby at 7ย weeks old back in February.

We were all so relieved that the baby was fine. I had suffered a miscarriage years before and it was a really traumatizing experience that I don’t want to happen again.

Hubby and our five-year-old Ziggy were there with me during the ultrasound. Ziggy was really excited because it was his first time to witness something like that. I think he couldn’t quite understand yet that that small thing on the monitor was a real baby. Haha! It was a really special moment. It’s just too bad that our girls weren’t there to witness it. However, we’re planning on having a 3D/4D ultrasound during my 7th month and that’s going to be more exciting so we’ll make sure everyone’s present during that day.

So far, so good! Bigger and better things are happening for me and my baby now that I’m on my second trimester. Can’t wait to see what the rest of the pregnancy holds!

I didn’t feel nauseous with my 1st pregnancy, except that I am always tired and sleepy on my 1st trimester. I am also a big ball of emotion. I was really very sensitive with everything. Super madrama. Hahaha! Always take care ha. Enjoy your pregnancy journey! ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. With my Yael, I would often vomit. I always feel too, perhaps because of my menier’s disease. Husband and I both agreed that I stop work and just stay at home. He set up a small room for me downstairs under the stairs (thus my kids would call me the lady version of harry potter living under the stairs) as i was banned from rakings stairs. I survived my pregnancy taking lots of pampakipit, duvadilan and duphaston included. I pray for your safety plus the little angel inside your tummy.
