As moms, we’re all concerned about our kids’ health and well-being and that includes the condition of their skin. No matter how careful we are though, we can’t always help them from being exposed to various external aggressors, such as pollution, dust, and irritants, that causes skin dryness and irritation. In fact, a study apparently reveals that more than 5 out of 10 Filipino children have experienced dryness and itchiness on their body.

Last June 23, hubby and I, together with a few other mommy bloggers and members of the press, were fortunate enough to have been invited to a launch event by Oilatum Philippines held at Cafe Naya at The Palace in Bonifacio Global City, wherein we learned all about the proper care of our babies’ skin while our kids had a blast playing at the play area set up just for them.

At the event, hosted by Isabel Oli – Pratts, we were told that a baby’s skin is even more challenging to take care of because it’s different than adult skin. I learned that an infant’s skin has unique qualities that makes it more sensitive. Their skin has a thinner epidermis, has less melanin, loses moisture faster and is more reactive and sensitive. If our babies have dry, irritated skin, it can cause sleeplessness, crying, scratching as well as restrictions too. So what are we moms to do? We need to break the Dry Skin Cycle. In order to do that, we need to identify and address any contributing factors and treat the dry skin using appropriate cleansers and moisturizers.

We can’t just use any cleanser or moisturizer though. Cleansers for infant skin should be formulated specifically for them and their special needs. They have to be mild and proven to have minimal impact on the pH of the skin. They must be either preservative-free or contain preservatives that have a demonstrated safety/tolerance profile. Moisturizers, on the other hand, helps make the skin soft and pliant, and must be proven safe as well.

Well, you’d be happy to know that there are new products in the market now that help address the Dry Skin Cycle and that is the new Oilatum Soothe & Protect range of products. The new Oilatum Soothe & Protect baby range is clinically proven to provide immediate relief and long-term prevention for babies and children with dry, irritated skin.

Formulated with nourishing oils and moisturizers, the new Oilatum Soothe & Protect baby range replenishes the skin’s moisture barrier. This action is called the Oilatum Skin Life Cycle which strengthens the skin barrier, thereby keeping moisture in and irritants out, to make skin healthier.
