Last week, we visited Ziggy’s pediatrician because he had a persistent cough, which has lasted a week already. The doctor ended up prescribing antibiotics as well as Ventolin and a steriod. I was appalled, to say the least. Although she said the steriods would be in small amounts only and won’t affect Ziggy negatively, I was still hesitant about it and so was Kai. It turns out that Ziggy has some mild asthma-like symptoms, which doesn’t really surprise me because Kai has had asthma since he was a kid. This means Ziggy might get it too.
However, I’m not really a big fan of medication, especially steriods and so Kai and I did not give him any of those medicines prescribed. Luckily, Ziggy’s cough seems to be going away soon.
We have been thinking of ways to prevent Ziggy getting asthma though. One way we could think of was enrolling him in swimming lessons. Yup, apparently, nowadays babies can already be taught how to swim. The objective is really to make them comfortable in the water. Not only will this strengthen Ziggy’s lungs but also provide him early on with necessary skills in the water. Kai and I have always loved swimming and so we believe that it’s important to teach our kids safety in the water. Ziggy will be turning 6 months old next week and he will already be eligible for his first swimming lessons. We’re still thinking about it, though, seeing how expensive the lessons are. Here’s hoping we can afford it soon.
oh, do it. I took a 8 week swim class with my 7 month daughter at the time. She is 10 months and loves the water. She puts her head under, she like the shower spraying her. I think being introduced to water at a young age help them to not fear it. Good luck!
I’d recommend swimming to your kid. My daughter used to have frequent coughs, and Ventolin used to be her best friend. But after she took swimming lessons last summer, thank God, she hasn’t had a single cough attack! Go ahead and do it.
awww… wawa naman. i guess swimming lessons might help him. it's also important to keep him away from common asthma triggers such as smoke, animal dander and dust mites.
anyway, thanks for joining in the week 12 of the weekly giveaways janice. Sorry for the late visit too.
Regards and good luck!
