You know you’re in the Philippines when you see Christmas decorations start being sold in September. The “- ber” months have indeed started. It shouldn’t have come as a surprise to me when I entered the grocery store last Sunday and saw Christmas decor being displayed for sale and Christmas music being played. Still, it did surprise me a bit. After all, Halloween hasn’t even passed us by yet and we haven’t even started choosing Halloween costumes for the kids. Oh well, just like my dad always used to say – this happens only in the Philippines!

I am excited, though. Christmas is definitely one of my favorite holidays despite the fact that I am now an adult and I no longer believe in Santa Claus. Somehow, the excitement that my kids feel for Christmas rubs off on me even during times when there are a lot of negative stuff happening around us. This year, though, Christmas will be even more special because it will be Ziggy’s first. Yippee! I can’t wait to buy him his Christmas outfit. I can’t wait to introduce him to Santa Claus. He’ll be almost 10 months old by the time Christmas comes and for sure he’ll love all the festive decor and lights that will no doubt be displayed everywhere we go. What’s most exciting will be seeing him try and open his gifts for the first time. I am normally always neat and tidy when opening presents but since this is baby Ziggy we’re talking about, I will be more than happy to show him how to tear off the wrappers and the ribbons, while carefully saving the cards first. Haha! Ooohhh, I wonder what Ziggy will get for Christmas?

Speaking of presents, I wonder what Zoe and Ziya will ask from Santa this year. Yeah, they’re 9 and 8 years old, respectively, but they still believe in Santa Claus (or they just let me think they still believe in Santa). Each year I encourage them to make a list of three items they want to ask from Santa for Christmas. I let them list 3 items because it allows Santa (ahem, ahem) to choose among the 3, depending on what he thinks will be appropriate (hehehe). Makes life easier for me. I just wonder how long this is gonna last, though. If they really still believe in Santa, I don’t want to be the one to break the bad news to them. Well, I’ll just enjoy it while it lasts, I guess.

Ooohh, I really can’t wait for Christmas!
