I was scheduled to blog about something else today but somehow I couldn’t find the inspiration to do so. Maybe it’s the bed weather (it has been raining cats and dogs since yesterday) or the fact that I have a cold and that I’m feeling so tired and sluggish. Anyhow, while I was willing myself to write I found myself looking out our bedroom window and seeing this:
That’s our backyard. As you can see, the floor is wet because it was raining while I took this photo earlier (still raining right now, actually). I don’t know about you but I actually think our backyard is nice. This is the closest thing we have to a garden since we live on the third floor of this building. We actually have a “front yard” too, which is actually the balcony that leads to our front door. It’s a bit smaller than this though.
The thing is, looking at our backyard makes me reminisce about how a lot of things have changed since we moved here a little over 2 years ago. I was hesitant to move to the suburbs because I am city girl at heart. I was used to living in a high rise right smack in the middle of a busy business district. I was used to the sound of buses and traffic. Here, everything is just quiet most of the time. Funny how this really feels like home to me now.
When we first moved here our backyard didn’t look like this. There were no plants. There was no roof (now there is a bit of a roof plus a trellis though you can’t see it on the photo). There was a whole lot of nothing. Those few times we held small parties here, it was really hard because of the sweltering heat. Now looking at this I’m thinking we should hold a get-together again soon and have a barbecue. The barbecue grill you can see there hasn’t been used in really long time. The guests will now be more comfortable because of the roof and the sight of the plants makes everything look more homey.
This also makes me think of the fact that Ziggy wasn’t around yet when we moved here. He was actually conceived just a couple of months after we moved. Life was definitely less chaotic back then without a super active toddler running around all the time. But you know what? I can’t imagine life without him anymore. Ziggy has made this home of ours complete.
