Note: In the original posting of this blog post, I mentioned that Casa Filipino is operated by Chef Laudico. I was just recently notified that Chef Laudico is no longer connected to Casa Filipino. Thus, I made the necessary corrections to this post. FYI. Thanks!
Last Sunday, we had the pleasure of having a family get-together for two reasons: 1) to celebrate one of my hubby’s aunt’s birthday and 2) to welcome home another aunt and uncle from the U.S., who are here for a vacation. We all celebrated by having eat-all-you-can lunch buffet at Chef Laudico’s Casa Filipino.
I have never been to Casa Filipino before. It is located at 26 Scout Torillo st., Quezon City. The area where it’s at is actually quiet. I like the ambiance because it’s very Filipino. However, you can’t exactly call it kid-friendly because of the heavy furniture. They didn’t have high chairs either. The place itself is not that big. I noticed that there were stairs leading to a second floor but I didn’t get to see the upstairs. The first floor, though, is divided into two dining areas. The main dining area is where the buffet is while the other dining area is where the bar is. We occupied that whole area by the bar. Here’s a photo taken of us courtesy of my hubby’s cousin, Bennette.
Of course, we also took photos from our own camera. Haha!
Obviously, the theme of the food is Filipino. I was so looking forward to trying the food. However, because Ziggy was being his usual hyper active self, I wasn’t able to try everything. I guess it’s a good thing, though, because I’m trying to watch my weight.
Anyway, for the appetizers, there was the usual salad, which I didn’t taste anymore. I tasted the fried calamari and fried tofu though which were okay. Ziggy actually liked the fried tofu. There were also other stuff in the appetizer table but like I said, I didn’t get to try them all. I didn’t even get to take a photo.
However, I was able to take a photo of some of the food I chose for my main course. As you can see here, there are buttered vegetables, chili shrimps, lechon kawali, Angus beef (or what’s left of it), fish teriyaki, beef steak and garlic rice. Ziggy and I also got to taste the pumpkin soup, which he really liked. The taste was good though I prefer it thicker. There were a lot of other viands in the menu such as Pork Binagoongan, Kare-Kare, Lechon Manok, etc. My favorite, though, among all those that I got to taste was the Angus beef. I am such a meet lover. The beef steak was tender and yummy too.
I went crazy over the shrimps too and not just the chili ones you see on the first photo. We were also served boiled shrimps on our table plus this crab you see here. I LOVE crab and I hate that I wasn’t able to taste it. I would have if I didn’t have to make sure my hands were clean and ready at all times to grab Ziggy when I needed to. It looks yummy and from what our relatives said, it tastes good too. I’ll be sure to try it next time.
Of course, we couldn’t leave without trying the dessert. There were choices of fruits and other treats. However, the fruits were only limited to watermelon and pineapple. I had the buco pandan, panacotta, palitaw, rhum balls and brownies. Later on, we were also served miniature halo-halo, which were served on shot glasses like the ones here. Of all these, I only liked the buco pandan, brownies and halo-halo. I didn’t like the taste of the rhum balls and the others were just bland.
Over all, I’d say it was a good dining experience. There were some hits and some misses when it comes to the menu. I’d come back again to try the other dishes and to see whether their buffet menu changes too. However, when I come back I’d probably come with just the hubby for date night so that we’d get to experience the food and the place better. It was a good lunch with family, though. It was fun!
