I have been wanting to blog about this for a month and now I finally can. I am so thrilled to announce that I was contacted not only to review the What to Expect series of parenting books but also to host a giveaway. Yahoo! I am such a fan of the series.
What To Expect When You’re Expecting
The first book in the series, What To Expect When You’re Expecting, has sold over 16 Million copies worldwide and is now on its 4th edition. It is the #1 bestselling pregnancy book in the world and has been dubbed America’s pregnancy bible. This 4th edition is filled with the most up-to-date information that expectant moms (and dads) need starting from preconception through postpartum. Aside from that, there are separate sections for staying healthy while you’re expecting, expecting while having a chronic condition, complicated pregnancies, coping with pregnancy loss and even a special part just for expectant dads.

What To Expect When You’re Expecting by Heidi Murkoff was certainly a great help to me when I was pregnant with my son, Ziggy, especially since he was conceived 8 years after I gave birth to Ziya. My third pregnancy was certainly different from the first two and it was this book that assured me that everything would be okay with me and my son. It’s very informative, helpful and complete. It answers all the questions that you might be shy to ask your OB-Gyn.

What To Expect – The First Year

What To Expect – The First Year has sold over 9 Million copies and is now on its 2nd edition. Part 1 features a month-by-month guide that explains what you need to know about a baby’s first year. It also has information on breastfeeding, choosing a physician and buying for baby. Part 2 tackles special concerns such as weather changes, sickness and health, first aid, low birth weight babies, special needs and adopted babies. The 3rd part is a guide for mom, dad and siblings on how to deal with the new addition to the family while the last part features a ready reference that includes baby’s first recipes, common home remedies and common childhood infections.
No wonder it’s the thickest book among the three. It’s just chock full of important information. I wish I had this last year during Ziggy’s first year. By then, I had already discovered the online version on Whattoexpect.com and so I used that as my reference. I still prefer the hard copy though since I can read it without going online.
What To Expect – The Second Year

Of course, once a baby turns 1, he or she now becomes a toddler, which means there are a lot of different developmental milestones, health and other issues to watch out for. What To Expect – The Second Year , the latest book in the series, tackles all these. Topics such as health, walking, feeding, sleeping, behavior, discipline, talking, learning, playing and making friends, traveling, safety, treating injuries and developmental disorders are all discussed in the book.
Right now, this is the book that we can relate to because Ziggy is already approaching his 17th month. We are constantly amazed (and baffled) by everything he does. We are so happy to have this book with us right now whenever we need answers to our many questions. Very recently, Ziggy suddenly got diarrhea from out of nowhere. I began to worry when it continued more than a couple of days. We took him to his doctor, of course, who prescribed antibiotics. But it was only through this book that we found out that giving probiotics helps a lot when the child is also on antibiotics. We tried it, and guess what, it seems to be working!

    2. I really want to win the prizes since we really want to get pregnant this year… for the 2nd time! 🙂

During my first pregnancy, I know so little and bought the less affordable pregnancy books.
