To say that I had been excitedly anticipating our visit to Movie Stars Cafe is an understatement.
We chanced upon this restaurant several months ago while strolling at the bay area behind the SM Mall of Asia. We were immediately intrigued by the facade of the place and the various staff in costume. We so wanted to go in and try the place out but they couldn’t accommodate us that time because they were already fully booked! So, when I was given a chance to take my family there last Saturday (courtesy of Mommy Bloggers Philippines), I grabbed the opportunity!
The Ambiance:
Movie Stars Cafe is an entertaining movie-themed cafe. At the front entrance, you’ll already see a beautifully crafted facade designed with Motion Picture Studio-like images with four giant search lights positioned within the premises. It is said to be visible as far as 4 kilometers away.
Also you can’t miss this iconic sculpture of an enormous gorilla right outside, which has undoubtedly become a famous place for people to get their photos taken.
Inside, the place is packed full of props from different movies, some even have autographs of your favorite celebrities. The area is surrounded with our four big screens & a hundred monitors playing movies simultaneously. It is seriously a feast for your eyes. You will never get bored in this place.
The place is approximately 1,000 sqm. and has a huge seating capacity of 300.
The best seats in the house are those in front of this huge stage. Although, there’s also a ramp connected to this stage, which is also surrounded by tables.
The Food:
You have a choice to order ala carte or to go for their Dino Buffet. With three kids in tow, we decided to forego the buffet that day. But here’s what you can expect to find there, in case, you want to try it.
The Dino Buffet is named such because of this huge T-rex placed on the ceiling right above the buffet area. You can get creative as you mix and match your very own signature all-you-can-eat deluxe hamburgers, sandwiches and hotdogs and more.
There’s a great selection of ingredients so that you can make your own salad.
Here’s what you can find for the main courses. These are the burger patties and Chicken Karaage.
These are the various pickled vegetables and rice.
They also have Chicken Katsu, Potato Wedges and Fry Fish Fillet.
More pork and beef dishes.
Of course, they also have pasta. These are the Shrimp Pesto Cream Pasta and the Sausages Pasta.
Pretty good selection of desserts.
Here are the prices for the Dino Buffet.
Dinner Buffet- Php 699.00
- 6 – 12 years old – Php 499.00
- 3 – 5 years old – Php 299.00
- 0 – 2 years old- FREE
- Php 99.00 to upgrade to All you can drink
- Add Php 100.00 on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, Holidays and before Holidays.
They also offer a Midnight Buffet for Php 599.00 from 10 PM – 2 AM (Mondays – Sundays & before holidays) and 10 PM – 12 AM (Sundays and Holidays).
Since we didn’t try the buffet, I can’t really say anything about the taste of the food offerings there. But price-wise, I’d say it’s a bit much considering the price of other restaurant buffets that have a wider selection of food. BUT, you also have to consider the entertainment factor, which you will not find in those other restaurants but is definitely a huge part of the experience at Movie Stars Cafe. I’d definitely come back and try the buffet next time.
Ala Carte
Their ala carte menu consists of a wide array of movie-themed dishes consisting of Appetizers (Jumpstart), Soups (You’re so Hot), Salads (Greenfield), Burgers, Sandwiches, Pizza and Wraps, Pasta (Long Life), Entrees (Main Events), and of course, Desserts. They also have a few dishes for the kids. Expect to spend a minimum of Php 300.00++ for each order.
They offer more than 40 choices of drinks as well, from Soda, Milk Shakes, Fruit Shakes, Juices, Specialty Drinks, and Alcoholic beverages.
The serving sizes are big and so they’re perfect to share with the whole family. We decided to order Overload (for our appetizer) plus The Notebook and El Grande Pizza for our main courses.
Overload (Php 490.00) consists of blue corn, yellow corn and red nachos combines, topped with chili con carne, bacon bits, jalapeno, salsa, mushrooms, cheddar cheese, shredded lettuce, served with sour cream and salsa.
We loved this so much. It’s the perfect pica-dica dish. We loved the salsa so much that we ordered another serving. There’s an extra charge of Php 50.00 though for that.
The Notebook (Php 420.00) is a baked penne pasta, served with basil cream sauce, pomodoro, fresh sausage, mozzarella and sharp cheddar cheese.
This one was delicious too! If you’re looking for a kid-friendly pasta, this is the way to go. All our three kids loved it.
El Grande (Php 490.00) is an 18″ thin crust pizza loaded with bacon, ham, pepperoni, sausages, chicken BBQ, peppers, onion, olives and fresh mozzarella.
This one’s comparable to the other pizzas in the market. Would have loved to try another flavor though. But it wasn’t at all bad. The good thing about this one is the size! I didn’t think we could finish it. However, since we stayed there for a good 4 1/2 hours, we were able to finish it after all.
As for the drinks, we only ordered two glasses of iced tea and a glass of Iced Mocha. Our total bill was only Php 1,958.00, which is not bad at all.
The Entertainment and Service:
From the moment you enter the place, you will already be entertained. The food also didn’t take long to arrive. The waiters and and waitresses, are all dressed in costumes. They were very friendly and accommodating with our requests, especially requests for photo opps with the performers.
There are also a lot of other performers in costume roaming about the place and interacting with the customers. They usually come to the table and play with both kids and adults alike. My kids had so much fun interacting with them, most of all Ziggy, who followed Spiderman and Venom all around the place. He enjoyed himself so much that he even went up to play on stage several times.
He’s so in love with Spiderman and Venom. Isn’t it obvious?
Here are more photos that we took of the kids with the performers in costume. We have so many photos and this is the best way I can showcase all of them.
But honestly, the best photos of the night, were selfies taken by Spiderman himself. I just LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this.
And another!
Because of Ziggy’s Spiderman obsession, we have a ton of photos with him and Venom. They are our most favorite among all the other performers there. They were so nice and accommodating with our endless request for photo opps. It’s like they never got tired at all.
Aside from that though, Movie Stars Cafe actually showcases performances every 30 minutes. Here are photos from some of them.
One of our favorites, was of course, the Spiderman show, which happened at 10:30 pm and was the last one we saw.
But our ultimate favorite show was The Lion King because it was already like a mini-musical with actual live singing.
Plus, the performers all came out in these amazing costumes. See the big elephant on stage? That show was amazing.
Movie Stars Cafe showcases a different line up of shows each night. So, if you want to know what’s in the line up, do call ahead. You will need to call ahead anyway to make a reservation because the place is almost always fully booked!
The Verdict:
I really, absolutely recommend this place most especially for families with kids. We will come back, for sure!!!
I rate this place 4.5 stars. The only reason why I’m not giving it a 5-star rating is because we haven’t tried the buffet yet, which gives us even more reason to come back.
