In our family, we believe that learning should be fun. We also believe that learning can be done beyond the four walls of the classroom or the home. That’s why we encourage our three kids to explore, no matter where they are or what they are doing. As much as possible, we also encourage exploration by going to educational places where they can learn and have fun at the same time.
Last March 22, our family was invited to attend The Mind Museum’s Media Family Day. We’ve visited the museum before but it was when I attended Cafe Scientifique (outside the museum) and hubby and Ziggy only went to the Science at the Park. Only Zoe and Ziya were able to go in and explore the museum. This time around, all of us were able to go in so it was real treat.
I’ve seen The Mind Museum when they first started building it. But it was still quite surprising to realize that it actually already celebrated its second anniversary last March. The Mind Museum is a non-profit organization of the Bonifacio Art Foundation, Inc., which “takes pride in being a museum designed by Filipinos for Filipinos, as it reaches out to the world to contribute to the public understanding of science”. Since they launched at the Bonifacio Global City in 2012, over half a million people have come away inspired after visiting The Mind Museum, many of them Filipino families and student from both private and public schools.
It’s really great to visit the museum any time of the year, but this summer is especially a great time to go because they have promos that you can avail of. Check out their Summer Day Pass and Weekday Special on the poster below.
Aside from these promos, did you know that The Mind Museum offers summer workshops for kids too? Yes they do and they’re not like your typical summer workshops too. We got to sample them during the event. Here are some photos of my kids joining the different activities at the booths, which all promote the different summer workshops available.
Here are Zoe and Ziya learning how to lift finger prints at the CSI 101 booth.
The girls didn’t want to try this though. So, I just took a photo of another girl at the crime scene. Haha!
Hubby and Ziggy learned how to make a toy bazooka…..
…. and how to practice using it by targeting those candles. Ziggy did an amazing job!
Here’s Zoe trying the score a goal at the Soccer Science area.
Here’s Zoe and Ziya answering a trivia question at the Marine Science Camp area.
Oh, and we discovered that we can make lip balm out of non-toxic crayons at the Junior Mind Movers booth. How cool is that?!
It was a really fun afternoon for us. Aside from visiting the booths, we explored the museum too and I will blog about our explorations on a separate post soon.
For details about the workshops, see below.

SOCCER SCIENCE
SOCCER SCIENCE is both a full soccer game and a science workshop! A worldwide favourite, this sport will be understood through the lens of science. This program aims to help people see the many physics principles at play in a game and how knowledge of physics and science in general can help improve their performance. People who have no knowledge in football but are interested in science will also enjoy dissecting the forces that causes curve balls, the trajectories of long shots, and the anatomy of a skilled player. What is more is that they will work with a “secret” kind of ball with powers that we bet you have never known before! Understanding soccer can help you play better!

Happy exploring!!!
It’s good that they also have activities for younger kids. We haven’t visited the Mind Museum because I feel like our minis are too young for that kind of museum- but after seeing Ziggy, I might just bring the kids there this summer!

Yes, Kim. I think your minis will still enjoy the museum even though they’re still young. Ziggy’s only 3 years old but he had a blast there. 🙂

The Marine Science Camp looks really interesting. It’s just that the location is a bit far. 🙁

I was really interested in the Marine Science Camp too, May, although it’s not within our budget yet for this year. Maybe we’ll join that next year. 🙂

Kids today are so lucky!!! These new and non-traditional summer workshops seem pretty cool! I wish we had CSI 101 when I was a kid! 😀
You’re right, the workshops are really cool, Carmel! 🙂 I guess, in some aspects, it’s really more fun to be a kid nowadays. 🙂

Thanks, Serene! Yup, sayang we didn’t get to meet personally that time. But I’m sure there’ll be other events where we can “bump” into each other. 🙂

It’s cool that the museum also offers workshops for the kids of different ages. But I think it’s a little pricey, isnt it? hihi

Interesting! I have always been fascinated with archaeology and forensics, probably due to the exposure to the mysteries of Egypt and CSI :))
