I was browsing through my Facebook wall yesterday when I came across this nice quote about families. I immediately related to the quote because it stated exactly how I feel about my friends and my in-laws. It’s also very applicable to our blended family. You’ll see what I mean after you read the quote below. It was lifted from www.spirituallythinking.blogspot.com.
This really struck me because I was never really close to my relatives and never really felt that I belonged with them. Let’s just say it’s complicated and that the word “dysfunctional” wouldn’t even begin to explain my family’s history. So, going through my teenage years, I only felt at home with my friends. Now, I have found a new family with my hubby and his relatives, who have been so nice and accepting of me and my daughters. With them, I feel accepted no matter what my past life has been. They hold no judgement and instead, accepted me with open arms because their relative, my hubby, loved me.
Similarly, I can say the same for my hubby and my two daughters. Though my daughters did not come from him biologically, they still respect and treat him like a dad. So many times, he has sacrificed time and resources, for their sake. He has committed to loving them and raising them as his own because of his love for me.
If that is not what you would call a family, I don’t know what is.
