On Turning 35

As I am writing this, it’s 11:48 p.m. already on the eve of my birthday. In 12 minutes it will be February 21 and I’ll be turning 35. Wow! How fast time flies.

To be honest, I’ve been having birthday blues since the beginning of the month. 35 may not be a milestone age but to me it’s a big deal because I take it to mean that I’m nearing 40. To me, at the age of 40, a person should have already accomplished a lot of his goals in life. For me, that means a secure career, a happy family, own house, travel, etc.

Turning 35 has made me panic a little knowing that I still have a lot of goals left to accomplish. I blame that panicky feeling for some decisions I’ve made these past few weeks regarding work-related stuff.

I realized that I’ve been spending so much time on things that I didn’t like doing anymore. I felt like I’ve been wasting time when the truth is there’s no time to waste. Life is short. So, for the past couple of weeks, I’ve been spending more time on things that matter to me – this blog, my writing, and most importantly, my family. And because of that, I feel so much more calm.

So, you might be wondering what my birthday wish is. I can think of so many material and non-material things to wish for. But the truth is, my only wish for my birthday is for a feasible, peaceful resolution to this one major problem I have.

In the interest of privacy, I can’t share with you what that problem is. But I will tell you this, having that problem solved will allow me and the rest of my family to move on with our lives. It will not make our life perfect, of course. I know there’ll be other obstacles in my life but this is the most major one right now and it’s something I don’t quite know how to handle.

So, I would like to ask a favor. Since it’s my birthday, I’m asking for you to take a moment and say a sincere prayer for me and ask God to grant my birthday wish. I’m sure your prayers will help. Thank you so much.

Ooh! It’s already 12:05 a.m. I’m feeling happier already and excited to see what this day (and the rest of my life) has in store for me. I am super grateful for being given another year to spend with my loved us, another year to make my dreams come true. I hope you’ll continue to ride on this journey with me.
