Last Friday, February 21, I had the pleasure of being invited to a Safe Sleep SPArty sponsored by Halo Philippines, the local distributor of Halo SleepSack. When I got the invitation around a week before the event, I was really excited because Halo is the type of brand I like working with, plus the event was scheduled on the day of my birthday. What better way to spend a birthday than by going to a spa, right?
We had the SPArty at Pink Me Up Beauty Bar in Shaw Blvd. Together with other mommy bloggers, Halo Philippines treated us for some much-needed rest and relaxation, food and of course, some hand spa treatments.
More importantly, though, we listened and learned the truth about safe sleep. Ivy Lim-Esteban, the owner of Halo Philippines and a mom herself, talked to us regarding some misconceptions about safe sleep and also gave us some tips in order to make sure our babies sleep soundly and safely.
Here are some important facts that I learned during the talk:
Sudden Infant Death Syndrom (SIDS)
We all have heard stories about babies dying while they were asleep. This can happen for so many reasons. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is the sudden, unexpected death of a baby 1-12 months of age. However, the exact cause of SIDS is not yet known. So, what we can do as parents and caregivers is to make sure that SIDS is avoided at all cost.
Did you know that the National Health Statistics of the Center for Disease Control (CDC) states that SIDS is the #1 cause of death among healthy infants? Other top five causes of infant deaths are birth defects, preterm birth, maternal complications during pregnancy and complications of the umbilical cord or placenta. However, only SIDS affect otherwise perfectly healthy and normal live births.
It’s alarming, right? Nearly 2,500 babies die each year. Moreover, up to 2,000 sudden unexpected infant deaths (SUID) are caused by suffocation or accidents during sleep yearly. This can be avoided if only people are educated about safe sleep. Sadly, here in the Philippines the government and health institutions have not really done anything yet to educate more people about it.
That is why Halo Philippines is advocating for Safe Sleep. They’re mission is to help babies sleep safer. Sleep is very essential for the growth and development of our kids. So, we have to make sure that they get the right amount of sleep and that they’re always sleeping safely too. Here are some tips they have given in order for you to do just that.
Tips for Safe Sleep:
- Place your baby on his back when he sleeps.
- Make sure his crib complies with current safety standards. Use a firm mattress that fits snugly and covered only with a tight-fitting sheet.
- Do not put any other items in the crib such as toys, bumpers, pillows, or even blankets. These increases the risk of SIDs and can cause suffocation. If you want to make sure your baby is warm enough when sleeping, don’t use a regular blanket. It would be best to use a wearable blanket instead.
- Never dress your baby too warmly for sleep.
To make things easier for you, just remember the ABCs of Safe Sleep.
Safe Sleep is easy, right?
For those of you who are interested to know more about Halo’s products, you’d be happy to know that they have products for newborns up to big kids too! They offer the following products:
- SleepSack Swaddle
- SleepSack Wearable Blanket
- SleepSack Early Walker
- SleepSack Big Kids
There are so many cute designs available for both boys and girls. The best thing about them though is the quality and durability. It’s no wonder their products are award-winning too.
I really wish I knew about these products back when my kids were still babies. I especially had problems with Ziggy’s first few months when all he wanted was to be constantly held by me. The Halo SleepSack Swaddle would have been such a big help to us.
Halo SleepSack is the #1 trusted choice of hospitals in the U.S. and in Canada. They’re products have always been tested to ensure they are sturdy and free of lead and toxins. They impose the strictest standards for all the materials used in their products, from the fabric to the zippers, snaps, and even the packaging.
With Halo, you can be assured that your baby will sleep soundly and safely too. And won’t that allow you to sleep better as well?

I’ve heard about safe sleep but not until I have two kids already that are beyond infancy stage. Hihi. But IF we decide to have another, I’ll have to give this a try.

I remember being told that it’s best to put the baby on his tummy when he sleeps because they’re more “mahimbing” that way. I’m glad I didn’t do that when my kids were infants! Hindi pala safe.

I’ve heard about SIDS before, and I did a little research on it. I think it’s one of the saddest things that could ever happen. It’s great that you decided to share measures that can be taken to prevent it from happening.

Those sleepsacks are wonderful, I wish I knew about it when my youngest was a baby, there would be no need for blankets that could accidentally cover her face when she’s sleeping.

Last week, I read about a baby that died while sleeping in her baby car seat. It was so tragic, she was just there at the back of the car attended by a friend of her mother’s. It was really just a freak accident.
