Those of you who have been following my blog will know that I had every intention to breastfeed my baby, Ziggy, exclusively for his first six months of life. You’d also know that I tried to do just that since I gave birth to him a little over two weeks ago. However, breastfeeding him has been a challenge because he just wouldn’t latch properly on my left and can only successfully breastfeed on my right. My milk supply is also not enough for him and so I had no choice but to mix feed.
I think I’ve tried to do all that I can so far in order to increase my milk supply. I eat something with soup everyday. I take moringa capsules everyday, twice a day. I try to increase my water intake. I try to pump as often as I can, though this is really hard because there are just so many other things I have to do around the house. I was so close to just giving up. I was beating myself up for not being able to produce as much milk as Ziggy needs. It became one of the main reasons why I was having the post-partum blues.
Now though, things are starting to look up. I’m still not supplying enough but at least whenever I pump, I can now produce a total of 2 oz of milk from both breasts. It used to be that I could barely pump 1 oz. Ziggy normally consumes at least 3 oz per feeding so I still have to continue improving to meet his demand. Though it’s still disappointing at times, I just try to think that some breast milk is better than no breast milk at all. Hopefully, in a couple of weeks I’ll be able to produce enough so that we can stop giving Ziggy formula. Even if that means I’ll have to keep pumping for at least the next five months, that’s a small sacrifice I’m willing to make.

  1. I’ve never heard of eating soup but I can tell you a for sure solution that I’ve used with all three of my kiddos. Fenugreek. You have to take 3 capsules 3 times a day…yeah..you heard me right, but it WORKS! You can tell a difference in about 3 days. I get mine from GNC. I’ve always had low supply. Let me know if you try it and what you think!

  2. Hi, I found you on “The Middle Matters” blog hop and I am following you now! I’ve had 3 kids and increased breast feeding time with each one (the first was only 2 weeks). Pumping can actually make it more difficult because you’ll end up needing to pump when your child isn’t hungry. Also 2 weeks is usually the magic mark, if you can get past that time things will get better. The best help I ever had was a visiting nurse (my youngest was a preemie) she really helped me! Good luck on whatever you choose!
If you are able, I would love a follow back. Thank you!

  3. I had the same problem with my three, and I expect with my fourth due in July.
I never could produce enough milk and my babies were quite juicy and hungry all the time that I had to succumb to the formula.
I don’t think of it as a failure – I think of it as feeding my hungry child!
Hope it improves for you. I’ll be there attached to breast pumps trying to boost my milk production too in a couple of months xx

  5. I understanding wanting to nurse and having trouble. When my Mary was born and couldn't nurse I was devastated. I had nursed her older sister for 21 months and had wanted the same thing for Mary.

In the end, I was a full-time pumping momma for 7 months. She never did nurse properly. 🙁 We started supplementing at about 8 months old until there was no more frozen milk to give her.<

  8. Janice, I am so glad you are feeling better! Keep at it, and that sweet baby boy will be all the better for it. I also had heard of fenugreek, but never tried it.
