I’ve never successfully gone on a diet, ever. When I was in my college days up to my early twenties, I was one of those lucky ones who could eat anything and never gain a pound. I enjoyed eating then because I didn’t have to care about becoming fat. I was the resident “hot momma” of our barkada because everybody else struggled with their weight. Life was great!
Now that I’m in my mid-thirties, though, things are different already. I can no longer indulge too much on my favorite food because I gain weight faster now. The fact that I don’t really have a workout regimen adds to that. But doesn’t doing chores count as a workout? While I try not to obsess about how much my body has changed since then, I have to admit that I’m not really happy about it. I try not to think about it because I know it will just depress me.
I know that a healthier diet is necessary for me now especially since I don’t workout but I honestly don’t have the time to cook sometimes, much less research for healthy recipes, count calories and look for hard-t0-find ingredients in the supermarket. We also don’t have any help around the house so it’s not like I can ask someone to cook for me. But lo and behold, I discovered through Mommy Bloggers Philippines that somebody could actually do the cooking for me!
Last week, I got to try the meals developed by TheGoodBox, whose aim is to provide a convenient, practical and viable solution to problems such as mine. TheGoodBox team is composed of chefs and nutritionists who developed the business precisely because they also realized that they have to start loving themselves more now by way of making healthier choices.
Here’s more info about them.
Armed with an army of experienced cooks headed by two of the best (and cutest) chefs we have ever known, TheGoodBox strives to make this healthy choice much more affordable and all the more YUMMY! With the convenience of having all your meals delivered right to your doorstep 5 days a week, eating healthy has never been this easy! And yes, your weekends are all yours!
Making healthier food choices does not mean that you have to go on a weight-loss diet. We leave that decision up to you. With TheGoodBox Meal Delivery Programs, you can choose between six (6) different calorie menus for everyday of the week: 1200, 1500, 1800, 2100, 2400 and 2700 calories, to help you achieve your goals, whether it be slimming down, maintaining your weight, or trying to gain it.
An important factor to living a healthy lifestyle is having a well-balanced diet. Our nutritionist makes sure that all your meals have the correct balance and proportion as each meal is carefully studied, revised, and finalized for maximum benefit.
We count the calories for you, and yes, we count them right!
Isn’t that great? In short, TheGoodBox makes eating healthy easier. No need to count calories, buy ingredients or cook. Everything will be delivered to you. Wow!
So, I was really thrilled to have been given the chance to try out their services last week. My meals were delivered to me on a Thursday night in a pink recyclable bag, for consumption on Friday. All the meals were packed in plastic packaging and properly labeled either for Breakfast, AM Snack, Lunch, PM Snack or Dinner.
There was also a slip of paper with my name, the name of each meal with their corresponding calorie count. Love it! All I had to do was place the bag in the refrigerator. The next day I just had to take out each box and heat them in the microwave.
The menu was as follows:
Breakfast (250kcal):
Fruit and Nut Pancakes
Coffee
AM Snack (150kcal):
Chewy Caramel Apple Cookies
Lunch (330kcal):
Lemon Poached Chicken and Potato Salad
Vegetable Sticks and Dip
PM Snack (180kcal):
Pita Chips, Guacamole
Hummus Dips
Dinner (270kcal):
Eggplant, Ricotta and Tomato Pappardelle
Salad
Now let me tell you what I think about each meal.
Breakfast
I was intrigued with the Fruit and Nut Pancake mostly because I don’t really put fruit in my pancakes. The most I’ve done is put bananas and I loved that. I’m also used to putting a lot of butter (yeah, I know it’s not healthy!) and syrup on my pancakes. So, I wasn’t particularly thrilled that there was only one Fruit and Nut pancake and that it didn’t have butter and syrup. Haha! So for me, it will take some getting used to. I love that it’s healthy though. Plus, the coffee was really good!
AM Snack
It wasn’t long after breakfast that I became hungry again. I’m used to heavier breakfasts because I do all the heavy household chores in the morning. So, to say that I got hungry easily after breakfast is an understatement. Luckily, there was an AM snack of Chewy Caramel Apple Cookies. I loved them! They really were so soft, chewy and moist. Not too sweet at all. I just wish there were more of it (yeah, I know, I eat a lot!).
Lunch
For lunch, I started with the Vegetable Sticks and Dip. The Vegetable Sticks I got composed of mostly Singkamas (Mexican Turnip or Jicama) and a couple of carrots and cucumber. The thing is, I don’t like singkamas so it was actually my three-year-old, Ziggy, who ended up eating them. Haha! What I really, really loved though is the main course, which is the Lemon Poached Chicken and Potato Salad. I loved it so much I tried to cook my own version a few days after! It was very tasty. I love the combination of the ingredients. Also, it’s very filling. Initially, I thought I’d have to have rice with it in order for me to be satisfied but it was actually good on it’s own. This is my most favorite among all the meals I tried.
PM Snack
The Pita Chips with Guacamole and Hummus Dip was great too. I especially love the dip! I wish there were more chips though.
Dinner
For dinner, I had a salad with what looked like a vinaigrette dressing, which I liked. It’s very light and refreshing. The Eggplant, Ricotta and Tomato Pappardelle was also surprisingly good. I think it’s a great pasta dish that I can cook for the rest of my family someday.
All in all, I think the food was really worth a try. While I had issues with the serving size, I know it’s really because I’m used to eating bigger portions. It is something I have to change if I want to lose weight.
Having these meals also made me realize that healthy food doesn’t have to taste blah at all. They can actually taste really good too.
I also really like that they also offer special meal programs such as the South Beach Diet, Diabetic Diet, Hypertensive Diet and even a Pregnant-Diabetic Diet. Also worth mentioning is the fact that they’re conscious about the environment. TheGoodBox only uses chemical-free and rapidly renewable packaging. Plus they support Gawad Kalinga and the social entrepreneurs of the Enchanted Farm too.
It’s really worth a try so do check it out!

For someone who works out every morning, with the 1 pc pancake? I’d probably faint. Hehe.
But lunch and dinner looks good, major plus for calorie count. Thanks for making a review. Might consider this soon.
I know, right? It was a good thing there was an AM snack or else I really wouldn’t last ’til lunch. Haha! But yeah, the lunch and dinner meals were good. 🙂

Oooh, turnips and is that eggplant with the pasta? The cookies look very promising but I’m not sure about fruits in my pancake. (I’ve always thought I wasn’t a picky eater, but I guess that’s relative).
Looking forward to trying out the Good box, who knows, I might like it more than I thought. 🙂

Yup, that’s eggplant on the pasta. Hubby actually made a similar pasta before so it wasn’t like weird thing for me. But like you, I wasn’t so sure about fruits in my pancake. It takes some getting used to. 🙂

Like you, I don’t have problem with my body when I was young but after I became a mom, my metabolism change. But I can’t take any diet because I’ve very picky.
