Do your kids love to color? Mine do. So when I was contacted by Color It By Numbers to do a product review I was excited to do so.

The Product:

Color It By Numbers is like a coloring book for kids ages 4 – 13. It is a downloadable application that can run on Mac, Windows and Linux.  Users can choose from three coloring modes, namely, Color It By Numbers, Color It To Make Visible and Color It In Your Favorite Colors. The first option helps kids not only to recognize colors but learn numbers as well. The pictures are also made of separate pieces and the users will have to finish coloring in order to see it. For the more creative types, the preset colors can easily be changed to any color desired.

Kids can choose from three image categories – Vehicles, Animals and Princesses. The images are cute and friendly and have high image quality. Color It By Numbers is available in five different languages (English, German, Spanish, French and Russian) and can be adapted for all screen resolutions.

Roller Coaster Ride Review:

Aside from testing the application myself, I had my two daughters use it too. The Vehicles category consists of pictures of different types of transportation modes – Land, Water and Air. The images were nice and cute and fun to color. There are so many to kinds, from cars, trucks, boats and planes. However, I think this would be more suitable for boys. My two eldest kids are girls and so they preferred using the Princesses category, which consists of tons of princess images in all sorts of settings. My girls also liked the Animals category since they are both animal lovers.

The Color It By Numbers application is very easy to navigate and use. My youngest daughter, Ziya, prefers to color the images by numbers while my eldest, Zoe, prefers to use her own set of colors. They say the application is fun to use and that the images are beautiful. I think so too. The fact that it also has accompanying music and sounds makes the experience more interesting. The first time they used it they spent practically the whole afternoon coloring, which is fine with me since for the first time, they colored something without actually using crayons and paper. This is definitely one computer application I don’t mind them using over and over again. Not only does it help kids recognize colors and learn numbers, it also helps develop their computer skills as well as learn from the different types of images. The only downside to it is that there are only three image categories. Hopefully, they will develop more in the future.
