Oh, who could ever forget her high school days? I certainly can’t. I admit, though, that I had more fun in college because I had more freedom then. It was in high school, though, when I met my closest friends, those who have been with me through good days and bad days, until now. I have a lot of memorable moments with my high school friends (and even just by myself) that it’s really hard to pick just one. There were a lot of funny, silly, dramatic, exciting moments during those days. There were a lot of firsts too and so I think high school was really when I started opening up my eyes to the world and thus, started to grow up.
Anyway, now that I’m thinking about those moments, I realize that a lot of them involved me performing. When I was a high school freshman, I took ballet lessons in school and so we did a lot of performances there. During my sophomore year, I stopped with the ballet lessons and joined the Dance Club instead, which was more memorable to me. With the Dance Club, I was really able to hone my dancing skills and at the same time was able to perform more. One of the most memorable performances was when we danced to Madonna’s Vogue and when we danced a hula dance. To this day, I still know the hula steps by heart and even dance and hum the song to make my baby Ziggy fall asleep. Haha!
Aside from the dancing, though, I was also in the Glee Club for a while during my Senior year. The Glee Club was one of the most prestigious clubs in our high school. They hold auditions for both old and new members every year and only the best of the best get to join. I’ve wanted to join since I was a Freshman but just didn’t have the guts. However, during my Senior year I figured it was my last chance to just brave the tryouts and what do you know? I passed with flying colors! I was actually the only Senior new member who passed the first wave of tryouts. Finding out I passed was really a memorable moment. I guess, it’s one of my proudest moments as well.ย
You could say that it was in high school that I found out I really love the performing arts, something that I have also passed on now to my daughters. So, now that they’re the students, I have transformed from a performer to a stage mom. Hahaha!
