July was Book Month at Zoe and Ziya’s school and so they had a lot of activities involving books and reading. The school held several contests for the students to join and the winners were awarded during the Culminating Activity which was held last Thursday.
For the Culminating Activity, the students were all encouraged to come in costume, dressed as their favorite book character. During the past years, Zoe and Ziya always went to this event in costume. However, this year they opted not to go in costume anymore. I guess, it’s because they thought it was too “babyish” to go in costume. Oh, my girls are growing up. I can hardly believe it. It was okay, though, I guess, because none of the other kids in their grade levels showed up in costume either. All the younger kids were in costume though and they were so cute. It just seems like yesterday when I would forever fuss about what costumes my girls will be in for all these school programs. Anyway, all the kids performed by dancing to some tunes to entertain the parents.

During the awarding of the contest winners, the parents of the winners were asked to come up on stage to pin the ribbons on their kid. I hardly left the stage because as expected, Zoe placed on most of the contests. She won 1st Place in Poster Making, 3rd Place in Vest Making, 1st Place in the Spelling Contest among the fourth graders and 2nd Place in another Spelling Contest when she was asked to compete with a sixth grader. Aside from that, Zoe was also Best in Essay Writing and Best in Oral Reading. Oh, I am one proud Mommy. Like mother, like daughter, of course!

Kai and baby Ziggy also came to the event, of course. That day was actually Ziggy’s 5th month birthday as well. He patiently waited for the event to end and just sat on his daddy’s lap drinking his milk and/or looking around.
After the event, we were initially planning on just going home to celebrate Ziggy’s 5th month birthday with his usual cake but Daddy Kai decided to surprise us by taking us out for dinner. Hooray! I guess, he was just so proud of our kids that he couldn’t resist taking us out to celebrate. So, we headed to the Newport Mall and had dinner at Stackers Burger Cafe.

It was a really, really nice time spent with the loves of my life. I just LOVE days like this!
