I was supposed to blog about something else today. However, I was so affected by what happened today that I just had to blog about it. We switched cable providers today. Actually, I didn’t even know we were going to do it until it happened. The thing is, we live on a building owned by my in-laws. They live downstairs while we live on one of the upper floors. Having said that, there are some things that we share, like the same cable TV provider.
I wasn’t exactly thrilled about the cable provider that they had when we first got here because I was so used to the one we had back in the condo where we used to live. Eventually, I learned to love it though. I became pretty happy with it actually because we had Star World, Star Movies and the other movie channels. Plus, we also got E! and Discovery Home and Health, which we didn’t have before.
Oh, I came to really love E! and Discovery Home and Health. E! started my addiction to everything Kardashian. It also fed my yearning for everything Hollywood. On the other hand, Discovery Home and Health gave me all the parenting/family/baby shows that I’ve come to love like A Baby Story, Jon & Kate Plus 8 (and eventually Kate Plus 8), I Didn’t Know I was Pregnant, Table For 12, Deliver Me and 19 Kids & Counting. I so love being a mom and I love watching or learning about other moms and families and how they live their lives. I’ve learned so much from these shows. I actually used some of these shows to teach Zoe and Ziya about babies when I was still pregnant with Ziggy. So, it really has sentimental value for me.
Unfortunately, the new cable provider that the in-laws chose do not have Star Movies or Star World, and worse, not even E! or Discovery Home & Health. It really sucks. Those are practically the only channels I watch on a daily basis. I’ve been channel surfing a while ago to see if there’s anything good on this new cable we have but sucks to say that, well, it sucks…..Have I already said that it sucks? Well, it really does.
I know it’s not the end of the world. I know it’s not some major global problem that has to be addressed. However, as a stay-at-home mom, my only pleasures here at home (aside from kids and hubby, of course) are the TV and the Internet. Watching TV and going online are just about the only things I get to do for myself that I enjoy around here. So it’s really depressing to think that I won’t be watching all my fave shows anymore. Don’t get me wrong here. I love my in-laws. They’re truly the best, the kindest and most gracious people I’ve met my entire life but this thing about the cable really just sucks.
And I didn’t even get to say goodbye…….
Try finding your favorite shows on Hulu or Netflix! Then you can watch them online.
Yep, like Erin said, Hulu your favorite shows. We haven’t had cable for over 5 years now and don’t even miss it. 🙂 I guess it’s what you get used to. I like our quiet home with the TV rarely on.
