Today, my hubby celebrates his 38th birthday. Woohoo!!! It’s definitely a reason to celebrate and celebrate we will. I have already planned a birthday dinner out, just the two of us. It has been eons since the last time we had a date night so this one’s going to be special.
Anyway, I thought it would be nice to make a special tribute to him today in this blog. I’ve talked about my hubby numerous times on this blog and I know I’ve always said he’s amazing. Well, he is and I swear I’m not just biased. Of course, he’s not perfect but no one is, anyway. He has qualities that I find irritating sometimes but his good traits definitely surpass the not-so-good ones. Allow me to share with you some of the reasons why I think my hubby is awesome. Here they are, in no particular order.
He’s artistic and creative.
I have no creative bone in my body, I swear. I usually dread arts and crafts because I end up creating something that’s boring. My hubby, on the other hand, is super artistic and creative. Well, he took up Architecture in college so, I know he’s good with design. While he didn’t end up practicing the profession, he still does creative work every now and then. He’s always asked to design stage set-ups and newsletter layouts and other stuff at work even if it’s not his job and he doesn’t get paid extra for it. On the side, he also does graphic design projects once in a while. I love that he’s artistic because at least one of us can help the kids with their projects. I’d love it if the kids grow up to be as artistic and creative as he is.
He can sing!
I love to sing and I’ve always liked guys who can sing and dance. Okay, so my hubby doesn’t really dance but he sure can sing! He has formed and been part of several bands since he was young. He plays the guitar too. I love his deep singing voice and it never fails to send shivers down my back whenever I hear him sing. One of my favorite bonding activities with him is videoke. I just enjoy doing duets with my hubby. I think we sound good together. Singing just makes me feel closer to him.
He can cook!
I was never really that much into cooking. I only really learned how to cook two years ago. My hubby, on the other hand, learned how to cook at a young age. He likes experimenting with different combinations of ingredients. What may seem like a weird combination to me, usually ends up tasting really good when he cooks them. I have learned a lot from him in the kitchen.
He’s the sentimental, sensitive type.
I guess most artists are sentimental and sensitive. Well, this goes both ways. There are days when I think his being sensitive is bad (when he gets easily upset over something) and there are times when it is good (when he can sense exactly what I am feeling). Most of the time it’s good, though. At least he doesn’t mind when I take him to watch sentimental chick flicks with me.
He’s a movie buff!
I love movies and I could never be with someone who doesn’t love watching them as much as I do. When we first started dating, my hubby and I watched a new movie practically every week. He’s my favorite movie buddy. In fact, I don’t really watch movies with anyone else, except our kids. I love that he likes to watch all kinds of flicks, like I do. I just wish we could still watch as many movies as we used to before Ziggy came along. Now, we usually just watch at home, which is still a fun bonding activity.
He’s patient.
I admit it. I can be a total biatch sometimes though I have to say I’ve improved a lot over the past four years that we have been together. There are still things I need to improve on myself though (like my temper) and my hubby reminds me of that every now and then. We’ve been through a lot and it hasn’t been an easy road for us but through it all my hubby has always been patient whenever I throw a hissy fit. To me, his patience is one of his greatest traits. I hope it rubs off on me.
He has a great, booming laugh.
I love his laugh. I love how his face lights up whenever he finds something really funny. The sound of his laughter is enough to make me feel more cheerful myself. I especially love it when he’s laughing about something funny that I did, which is rare because I am not the funny kind of person. I love his laugh so much that one of my birthday wishes for him is that he finds more reasons to laugh each day. He definitely deserves to be happy.
He has a calming presence.
There are times when I can be slightly neurotic. I worry and panic easily. I’ve been known to have panic attacks whenever something is really worrying me. During those times, the only thing that can calm my nerves is my hubby. He just has to give me a bear hug and I’ll instantly feel better. Actually, even without the hug, just have him stand or sit next to me and I’ll start to calm down. Just seeing him makes me feel that everything will be alright in my world. Nothing else matters.

He’s a great dad.
I’ve always said that he’s a great stepdad to Zoe and Ziya and to this day I still think that. Maybe they’re not as close yet as I had hoped they will be. But I’m not worried. Studies show that it takes years for a blended family to truly blend anyway. The fact is, he’s the dad who’s physically present on a daily basis for my daughters. He’s there when they need him. He goes with me to all the school events and will even sacrifice his much needed sleep just to be there with us. So I knew that he would be a great dad to Ziggy as well. He’s so hands-on. He changes diapers. He wakes up in the middle of the night when Ziggy cries. He feeds him, plays with him, bathes him, teaches him stuff, builds him a fort and a whole lot more. I look forward to seeing him blossom some more as a dad. I am so proud of him and my kids are blessed to have him.

 He has a good heart.
My hubby is the type of person who likes to volunteer for causes he believes in. He’s the type who’s always willing to help in any way he can, sometimes to the point when people start to take advantage of his good heart. He’s the type who loves love. Just when you thought there are no more nice guys in the world, here comes my hubby. He is truly a genuine, nice guy. Even his family and friends say that.
I can think of more reasons why my hubby is awesome but that will make this already long post even longer. The bottom line is, my hubby is all these and more. I couldn’t ask for a better person to grow old with. He is my rock. My hubby is truly one-of-a-kind and I’m truly a lucky girl to have him in my life. I hope he knows that.
Happy birthday, Buhr!!!! Here’s to more birthdays to come. I love you!!!
