When my daughters, Zoe and Ziya, started the school year back in June, they were really super excited about transferring to a new school. Not only is the school bigger, it also has a lot of student clubs or organizations that they could participate in. One of the organizations they joined was the Girl Scouts. They joined because they thought it would be a lot of fun. Even if they weren’t exposed to Girl Scouts in their old school, they’re familiar with it because of what they’ve seen on TV. I was happy they joined because I was a Girl Scout myself way back in Grade School. Like mother, like daughters!
Since June, they’ve already done some fun activities. The Girl Scouts normally meet on Fridays. One of the things they planned for was the Girl Scouts Investiture, which is a ceremony wherein they officially become part of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines. The ceremony finally took place last Friday and of course, the girls were so excited. Here’s Zoe doing the Scout sign.
Here’s Ziya with their school Principal, who was pinning the GSP pins on her collar.
Here’s Zoe being “pinned” as well, this time by one of the other GSP officials in their school.
The parents were the ones asked to put the scarves on their daughters. Here are photos of myself and the girls after I placed their scarves on them. They have a yellow colored scarf, which is what Junior Girl Scouts wear.
I’m really so happy for them. Being a Girl Scout is something to be proud of. I remember having so much fun as a scout because I learned a lot of things such as how to always be prepared, how to help others, about safety and rescue. I also had fun camping!
Speaking of camping, the scouts were all supposed to have a school camping trip that night. The girls were so excited to participate in it. They actually already finished packing for it. Unfortunately, it was cancelled at the last minute and was rescheduled to this week. The girls were so disappointed but at least they only have a few more days to wait.
As for me, I’m just a proud mom to my tweens. Raising tweens is definitely a challenge. My daughters are growing up and changing, becoming more “adult” in certain ways. It’s just so nice to see that at least in this particular instance, they are following my footsteps.
Congratulations Zoe and Ziya!
