Filipino-American writer Lysley Tenorio is coming to Manila for a talk and book signing on February 9, 2013, 4 pm, at the new National Book Store flagship in Glorietta 1.
Monstress is a collection of Tenorio’s short stories that explore the clash and meld of disparate cultures. It includes Monstress, The Brothers, Felix Starro, The View from Culion, Superassassin, Help, Save the I-Hotel and L’amour, CA. Nominated in the National Magazine Award, the title story Monstress tells the story of a has-been movie director and his leading lady who travel from Manila to Hollywood for one last chance at stardom, unaware of what they truly stand to lose.
Lysley Tenorio is a former Stegner Fellow at Stanford, he has received a Whiting Writer’s Award, and fellowships from the University of Wisconsin, Phillips Exeter Academy and the National Endowment for the Arts among others. His stories have appeared in The Atlantic, Zoetrope: All-Story, Ploughshares, Manoa, The Chicago Tribune, and The Best New American Voices and Pushcart Prize anthologies. Currently, he is an associate professor at Saint Mary’s College of California.
