Last Saturday, January 26, I was able to attend the second It’s a WAHMderful Life Workshop. I attended the first one last year and learned so much that I was even more excited to attend the second one. While the first tackled the basics of being a WAHM, the second was all about real ways to be a WAHM with two breakout sessions focusing on Virtual Assistance and Freelance Writing.
It turns out that I wasn’t the only one excited. Just look at how many WAHMs, aspiring WAHMs and even a couple of WAHDs attended the workshop.

I was also excited because it was a chance for me to meet up with fellow WAHMs, some I’ve only met online. It was such a thrill to finally see them in person! I’m truly blessed to have found such a wonderful support group. Nobody else can understand the ups and downs I go through but other WAHMs as well.
I wish I was able to take a photo of everybody I met but I wasn’t able to. Let me just share with you here a photo I grabbed from Patty of the blog, Mrs. C’s Sugarcoated Life. With me are Ditas of Henry’s Mom Blogs, Tina of Truly Rich Mom and Patty. It was really nice getting to know them and learning from them. You ladies rock!

Of course, I signed up for the Freelance Writing portion since I’m still a newbie in this field. Martine of  Dainty Mom, one of the two organizers of the WAHMderful Life series of workshops, was also the facilitator for the Freelance Writing session. She has been my writing mentor for the past several months and what a big help she has been! I’ve learned so much and hope to learn more. The lessons I’ve learned have inspired me to create my 2013 list of goals as a freelance writer. Allow me to share them with you.
Goal # 1 – Read, Read, Read
I’ve always been a voracious reader. Lately however, I haven’t really been able to sit down and enjoy a good book because of the hecticness that is called My Life. However, in order to be a great writer, one must always read a lot. I vow to read at least one book a week. I also vow to read more websites and blogs of people whose writing styles I admire.
Goal # 2 – Educate Myself
I still have lots to learn about how to be successful in this field. I have to continuously seek to improve my writing. So, my goal is to attend more writing workshops and talk to more writers who would be willing to share their knowledge to me.
Goal # 3 – Create My Own Professional Website
While this blog of mine has been the starting point of my writing career, I realized I need another site that will focus solely on me as a writer. I need to show clients what I can do for them and at the same time showcase my work.
Goal # 4 – Write for a Parenting Site
Okay, right now I am already pretty swamped with work.  However, it has been my dream to write for this parenting website that I just love. After the workshop, I was so inspired that I finally mustered the courage to apply. So, we’ll see what happens next. Pray for me, pretty please?

Goal # 5 – Go Back to Writing in a Journal

I started writing in journals when I was a tween and that habit lasted until my early college years. I loved writing in journals because I express myself better through writing and it’s also a form of release. I only stopped doing it when college life became busier. I guess that’s why I was so drawn to starting a blog of my own. In many ways, maintaining Roller Coaster Ride has been a form of therapy for me. However, there are very private things that I can’t share on this page. I’ll reserve those for my journal. I heard somewhere that keeping a journal is a must for writers and so that’s exactly what I plan to do.

Looking at the list now, I don’t know if they’re too much. Still, hopefully I’ll be able to achieve all of these goals by the end of the year. Wish me luck, will you?
