I’ve posted a couple of photos of my old workstation on this blog several months ago. If you saw that photo, you would have seen an HP personal computer with a 17″ LCD screen and a standard size CPU on the desk. As a matter of fact, it occupied about half of the desk…. and my desk is pretty big. So, that was how big the pc was. Well, yesterday I have officially said goodbye to that pc and call me a sentimental freak but I really felt like crying.
You see, I’ve been using that computer for over two years now, ever since I first became a WAHM. I loved the fact that the screen was big and I could easily see and navigate everything on the screen. I already knew where to find everything in that PC. I became so used to it already. However, I had to let it go because it was time to move on to using my laptop.
A few weeks ago, my hubby bought me a new 10″ laptop as a birthday present. My old HP laptop has been busted for over a year now and so I had nothing else to use besides the HP pc at home. It was actually fine with me. The only thing I didn’t like about it was the fact that I could not bring it with me everywhere, of course. So when my hubby bought me a new laptop I was really excited. However, it came with the agreement that I would start using the laptop for work from now on instead of the computer. This was because he and the kids needed to use it too. Using the laptop would also mean lower electrical consumption. As a WAHM, my schedule was such that I had to have the computer on for most of the day and so it really contributed a lot to our electric bill.
Switching to a laptop was fine with me because it saved up a lot of space on my desk but it does have it’s cons too. This is how my new work space looks like now. I posted this on Instagram yesterday.
I actually have space now to write on my planners and stuff! Actually, my hubby added our Altec Lansing speakers on the desk earlier today too. I just wasn’t able to take a photo of it. He said I needed speakers in case I wanted to play music or something. Okay! The desk is still a work in progress. I still want to fix it up with dividers/trays for my papers, etc. I also need a lamp so that I can see my keyboard when I’m working at night. This desk is actually inside our bedroom and I have to turn the lights out at night when my son is already asleep on the bed.
Honestly, I love my new space but I have to admit I also feel a bit sad for having to say goodbye to the HP computer, which is now at it’s new location at a corner of our dining area. Working on that computer was heck of a lot easier because the screen is big! I miss it. I can’t even see the entire page of my blog using this laptop! I also have to keep scrolling up and down, left to right in order to see what I need to see. It can get a little frustrating but I’m trying to focus on the positive. Add that to the fact that this laptop has Windows 7 (which I still need to get used to) and it only has a Microsoft Office Starter Kit, meaning it only has Word and Excel. No Powerpoint! I don’t have PDF either! Have to purchase those first. Grr!!!
So, my mission now, aside on upgrading my software, is to spruce up this little space of mine to make it more me. I was thinking of buying a new table but I don’t quite have the budget for that yet. It’s time to research about frugal design ideas or this space!
If you have any suggestions, I’d sure to love to hear them. How did you decorate your own work space?
