Spread the love

As much as I love writing, dancing and singing have always been my first loves. I’ve been dancing and singing since I was a kid. I was that typical girl who always tried to be part of the school programs because I just loved performing although I was actually a shy kid. I guess even early on, dancing and singing have been a form of self-expression for me. I took singing and ballet lessons. I joined the Dance Club in high school. I really was so into it but never seriously thought of doing it professionally because I was groomed to take my dad’s place in the family business.

Fast forward to today and I’m actually no longer active in the family business. After years of finding my true calling, I have now become a writer and social media manager and I love it. But, the truth is, there’s still that part of me who longs to get back on stage and just dance. Actually, I have a secret wish of being a professional dancer although I think it’s already too late for me.

So, anyway, when I was suddenly invited by Polecats Manila for a one hour trial Moms & More Pole Fitness class on July 16, I readily confirmed. I hadn’t been dancing for far too long and I took this as an opportunity to do so again although I had never tried pole dancing before. Nevertheless, I was super excited to say the least.

Now, let me tell you something about Polecats Manila.

Dance company Polecats Manila, formed in 2009, is at the forefront when it comes to promoting pole dancing as a venerable art form and fitness alternative to Filipinos. Embarking on a confidence crusade for women and men from all walks of life, the group set up shop in Ortigas in April 2012 to become the first pole dance studio in the country.

The group strongly advocates empowerment, equality and self-appreciation through pole dancing and other aerial arts.As teachers, Polecats Manila aims to show every student that no matter their size, height or history, that they are capable of defying gravity. Equipped with the most professional equipment, Polecats Manila instructors are all internationally certified.

Polecats Manila offers regular pole dance and aerial classes throughout the day to make sure that it is convenient for people to engage in challenging yet fulfilling fitness activities with a schedule they can commit to.

What I love about Polecats Manila is that they offer a variety of pole dance and aerial classes that cater to everybody, even men! The class I attended, Moms & More Pole Fitness is actually geared towards busy women who want a slower, more focused pace of pole fitness. This class is offered every Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9-10 AM at the Polecats Manila Studio at the Wellness Alliance, Strata 100, Ortigas. Read more about their classes and schedules here.

Now let me show you what the studio looks like. Check it out. It’s not a really big studio but spacious enough. I actually prefer this size because to me this means that only a limited number of students can join a class, which means the instructor can really focus on all of his or her students.

Mind you, those poles can actually spin! I didn’t actually see them spinning but we were told that those are used for their, you guessed it, spinning pole class. I didn’t even know there’s such a thing.

On one side of the studio, there’s a display of workout gear and other paraphernalia for sale.

This was me doing a selfie right before the class started. I wanted to strike a sexy pose by the pole but was too shy to do so. Haha! Anyway, notice that I was wearing a headband and had my hair in a ponytail too in this photo. But later on, our uber nice instructor, CD, asked us to remove our “mommy headbands and ponytails” so that we can whip our hair around. She even said that next time we should actually wear lipstick. Haha!

During the class, CD taught us some moves and actually choreographed everything so that we can dance to one whole song. We actually did it! It was so much fun. She taught us how to do a “fireman” which actually entails one to swing around the pole like, well, a fireman. Haha! And I was actually able to do it! Okay, I got really dizzy the first time I tried it but the more I tried, the less dizzy I became.

The mom bloggers and I, of course, recorded our dancing prowess not only with photos but with videos too. Haha! However, I’m not going to upload the video here because I’m still a little shy about it. If you want to see it, try to find Rina’s post about it ‘coz she uploaded the video there. But I am going to share with you screenshots of the video I took. Here it is!

It was such an exhilarating experience I will never forget. I totally fell in love with it to the point that I’m actually considering probably training for it professionally, God-willing. Taking the class made me miss dancing more. It was like tapping that part of me that has been dormant for so long. The biggest challenge would be finding time for it. But like what my hubby said, if there’s a will, there’s a way. So, we’ll see!

Below is our class photo. All the mom bloggers enjoyed it too. I have no doubt they’ll be back to take more classes too. We’re super grateful to CD for being such a fun and patient instructor.

We loved it so much that we didn’t want the class to end just yet but unfortunately, the class had to end. We were treated to this wonderful spread after. Thanks Polecats Manila for inviting us!

For the benefit of the other mommy bloggers who will be joining the next batch of Moms and More pole dancing class, I’ve finally decided to share our video although I’m still quite shy about it. Haha! This is just so you know what to expect from the class. ๐Ÿ™‚ Video courtesy of Rina of Rina’s Rainbow.
