We’re in the thick of summer and we just received our electric bill a few days ago. It was a whopping Php 9,000.00! Needless to say, it made a huge dent in our wallets.
Since we’re hoping to decrease our electric consumption not only for the rest of the summer but forever, hubby and I have been looking for energy-efficient solutions. Thankfully, I was introduced to Orbik lighting solutions a couple of weeks ago.
Orbik is actually a UK brand that has been in the industry for 30 years already. It was recently launched in the Philippines at Cafe Naya at The Palace. During the launch, I learned a lot about the proper use of lighting in our homes and offices.
Traditionally, a central light fixture is used in the room to illuminate everything. However, you can actually play around with lighting to highlight key focal points, such as a bookshelf or an accent piece of furniture.
Lighting actually serves different purposes, according to architect Conrad Onglao:
- Accent lighting to highlight artwork
- Indirect lighting to create mood
- Task lighting on desks or above kitchen counters where clear light is necessary
Now it’s not enough to understand how lighting is used. You also have to know how to choose the right bulbs for your home or light fixture. Here are a few tips I gathered during the event.
- Consider the size and function of the space to ensure that you buy a bulb that has a wattage fit to its function.
- To get the right amount of illumination/light specific for its function, look at the lumens, not the wattage.
- Choose an energy-efficient bulb for its low environmental impact and cost-effectiveness, lasting over 3 times longer than its outdated predecessor. Going LED means saving money, effort, and the environment.
Orbik actually has a full range of LED bulbs and other lights that assure energy efficiency. Unlike other brands, Orbik does not focus on the price of the product, but on the kind of light functions needed in a space. Most Orbik bulbs have both warm white (yellowish feature) and daylight (crisp white color) options.
We got to see most of the Orbik range of products during the launch, such as this bulb, which didn’t even feel hot on the skin even when you touch it!
My hubby has been scouting for LED bulbs for months now and have changed some of the ones we had at home but when compared to these Orbik bulbs I got to take home, the other brand really can’t compare. Orbik truly is the more energy-efficient option.
My most favorite of the bulbs I got to take home though is this LED dimmable version that has a Bluetooth speaker and remote control too!
Yes, it has a Bluetooth speaker! It combines LED energy-saving lighting and sound technology. Plus, it’s only 7 watts! I was so excited to use it that I had hubby immediately install it at my workstation at home.
Not only is my workstation well-lit, I can play music and save on energy and money too! Awesome!
Get your own Orbik bulbs too! Orbik is now available in Manila, Cebu and Davao. For more home-lighting solutions, follow Orbik’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages. Share your experience with Orbik using #OrbikLightExperts.
I super love the LED dimmable version of Orbik! How much yan sis? Ang galing naman that it can also serve as a speaker.

It costs P 2,000. I think it’s worth it considering it’s not only energy-efficient but has dual purpose too. 🙂

Can you imagine we now have lightning that can play music? The wonders of technology talaga. I think I have to be very convincing with the hubby para payagan ako to buy one for my work area with that pricetag though.
Oooh these energy-efficient bulbs look interesting! I’m gonna check these out — glad they’re available in Davao, too!
Too bad I missed this. We’ve switched to LED but we found that the bulbs easily broke/flickered. I suppose it’s with the brand. I’d have to check out Orbik and see how it compares.

With bluetooth speaker and remote control plus 7 watts only? I am very much interested to get a number for our house, too. I am still waiting for our electric bill but i know the numbers there would definitely not put a smile on my face.
Our family recently started changing to LED because of huge energy consumption. This is a great suggestion especially for this season when energy consumption usually spikes up. Thanks!
Wow, a bulb that has a speaker? I’ll make sure to check this out in the market! I hope they’re not too expensive though.
