Normally, when we hear the word “mom” we think of someone who takes care of the house and the kids, whether they are working moms, work-at-home moms or stay-at-home moms. However, I find the phrase “takes care of the house and kids” too general. It makes motherhood sound so simple and easy when it fact it is really the opposite. I’ve been a mom for almost eleven years now so trust me when I say that taking care of the house and the kids is THE MOST CHALLENGING (yet most fulfilling) thing I’ve ever done in my entire life. Think about it. What does taking care of the house and kids really entail? Allow me to list down the various roles or tasks I have had to undertake as a mom.
As a mom, I have been a:
- tutor
- assignment-checker
- school planner / reply slip signer
- parent coordinator (a very recent addition)
- school bag / lunch box checker
- alarm clock (I wake the kids up every school day despite the fact that they already have a real alarm clock.)
- party planner
- hair stylist
- make-up artist
- costume designer
- videographer
- photographer
- scrapbook artist
- project planner
- nurse
- cook (or “cooker” as per my daughter Ziya)
- dishwasher
- cleaner
- bath-giver
- cheerleader
- pee/poop/puke cleaner (Motherhood is such a glamorous job, isn’t it?)
- diaper changer
- medicine-giver
- rocker (as in I rock the baby to sleep, haha!)
- menu planner
- waitress
- feeder
- laundry master
- shoulder to cry on
- kisser
- hugger
- masseuse
- diaper bag organizer
- vacation planner
- storyteller
- singer
- dancer
- actress (Isn’t it obvious that I like to entertain the kids?)
- discipline-giver
- garbage collector
- grocery planner
- researcher
- police
- arbiter (When you have two daughters who bicker every now and then you can’t help but step in.)
- personal shopper (This I love, ha!)
Without even stopping to think about it, I already wrote 45 items on that list. I’m pretty sure it’s still incomplete. No, I don’t do all these things on a daily basis – just most of them. It keeps my life pretty busy. Oh, and did I mention I have a responsibility to my job and my hubby, too?
Can you relate?
Hi Ice! I SO CAN RELATE!!! Nice post! =)

Thanks Pepper! Glad you liked it. 😀
The only “job” that dabbles in a little bit of everything. 🙂
