Exploring the Mind Museum

A couple of weeks ago, I blogged about the various summer workshops that Mind Museum has to offer kids this year. In that post, I also said that I’ll tell you all about our explorations inside the Mind Museum on a separate blog entry. So, here it is!

 

As I have previously mentioned, although Zoe and Ziya have toured the museum already before, it was a first for me, hubby and Ziggy. So, technically, that day was our first tour there as a family. That’s why we spent a LOT of time going around the 5 interconnected galleries.

 

Here’s a quick tour of what you can find in each gallery.

 

ATOM Gallery (The Strange World of the Very Small)

 

Obviously, in this gallery, you’ll learn all about atoms. On the photo above, you’ll see photos of me and the girls at the Atom Gallery. There’s a photo of the girls by that huge chocolate bar with the fly (‘coz everything from flies to chocolate, and you and me are made up of atoms).

 

Also on the left photo on the collage above, you’ll see Ziya and I posing inside this cave like thing wherein you can learn about molecules. Then on the lower right portion, you’ll see me and Zoe with our hair up (this is where we learn about Electricity and Magnetism). Obviously, that was caused by the Static Ball. It was my first time to do this and it was fun. Haha! Well, the kids were all laughing at how I looked so that made it fun for me.

 

 

Of course, hubby and Ziggy did their own share of exploring. On the left part of the collage above, you’ll see them playing at the Electric Table. On the right part, they were exploring again with this huge thing with water inside, only I don’t know exactly what it’s called. Oh well, sorry!

 

Not in these photos are other highlights including the Periodic Table, Shadow Box, Newton’s Cradle, the Lightbridge.

 

EARTH Gallery (Nature Across the Breadth of Time)

In this gallery, the highlight is definitely the skeletal system of the Tyrannaosaurus Rex. This is the part where you learn all about fossils. There’s even a display of dinosaur poop, no kidding! Ziggy, of course, found it hilarious!

 

 

On the top left part of the above collage, you’ll see my three kids crowding inside this small space wherein you can learn about animal sounds. On the lower left portion, Ziya and Ziggy were learning about how volcanoes erupt. Hubby, on the lower right of the collage, was checking out this display that allows you to create your own tornado.

 

One thing we missed here is the Nature’s Hourglass, which helps you learn processes across 4.6 billion years that shaped the natural history of the Earth and the Philippine archipelago.

 

LIFE Gallery (The Exuberance of Life)

Here  you’ll learn about both human and animal life, most specifically about evolution, habitat conservation & water quality, biomes, hemisphere of the brain and even about human taste.

 

 

The main highlights include the huge whale shark on the photos above, as well as the huge human brain. On the lower right, you’ll see a display about human evolution, while on the lower left, you’ll see one about wildlife and their respective habitats.

 

TECHNOLOGY Gallery (How We Live)

This is the gallery I found most interesting (coz I’m kinda feeling techie, haha!).

 

 

On the top right of the collage, Zoe was learning how to use the Gutenberg Press, which is a hand press in which ink is rolled over the raised surfaces of movable plate which is then pressed against a sheet of paper. So tedious! Did you know that Jose Rizal used this kind of printing method for his novels? So cool!

 

On the rest of the photos on the collage, you’ll see Ziggy exploring a LOT! He had so much fun raising bridges, looking at cars and other vehicle displays, blocks and the like. He also posed with MIMO. Actually, MIMO was just standing there and Ziggy accidentally pressed something that made the robot move. Haha! The guard on duty nearby panicked a little when he saw Ziggy playing with it. Uh-oh!

 

Not on the collage are the displays about Literature, Scents, Solar Power and more.

 

UNIVERSE Gallery (Its Beginning and Majesty)

If space is more your thing, you’ll enjoy this gallery. See Ziggy try to drive that machine “on Mars” at the left portion of the collage below. On the right, you’ll see the kids “travel through space” through the Tunnel Craft.

 

 

The most fun part of this gallery, though, is the Space Shell a.k.a. the Planetarium. They showcase regular film screenings here and we got to see one. I didn’t think Ziggy, being only three years old, would like it. Surprisingly, though, he actually LOVED it. If you ask him what he likes the most from the museum, the Space Shell is the first thing he’ll say.

 

Overall, it was really a fun-filled day of exploration. We can’t wait to come back again someday soon.
