Learning Through Play with The Ogalala System in Play

I have always believed that children can learn a lot by playing. But I also believe that parents should always be aware of what types of play will really foster growth and development in their child. When I got an invitation from Oga-lala System in Play to attend their play workshop, I was immediately curious about what their system is all about because it seemed like they have the same beliefs about play.

Here’s some information about Ogalala System in Play:

OGALALA is a brand under Internationale Globale Marques, Inc. (IGM) that is a corporation in the business of distribution, manufacturing and licensing of international global brands. It has taken under its business the Ogalala website and its transactions.

 

Ogalala is a system developed by IGM based on play and parenting insights wherein play products or educational toys are grouped together to develop the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional skills of a child from birth to 12 years old. It is composed of eight (8) globally- known brands: Crayola, Melissa & Doug, HABA, Animal Planet, Discovery Kids, ArTec, Disney Baby Einstein, Emco, and Oops.

This is what Maye Yao Co Say, COO of IGM, says “We know that dads and moms today have very busy schedules and would not have time to read all the good developmental books in the market. Being a mom of 2, I also know that although kids have a multi-media world now, our kids always look forward to their times of bonding and connection with their parents. My husband and I try our best to maximize our bonding time with Meagan and Marcus with meaningful play time since they were babies”.

I get what she said. There are just so many options when it comes to toys that it makes it hard for parents to choose. And yeah, it does take a lot of time learning about childhood milestones and how we can help our kids achieve them. If there’s a system that can help us with this, wouldn’t you want to try it at least?

What the Ogalala System in PLAY really does is to help you identify your child’s milestones and the tools that will help you adapt to your child’s learning method. The milestones are divided into four: Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development, Intellectual Development, and Language Development. The system has developmental milestone charts available for Infants, Toddlers, Preschoolers, and Grade Schoolers. Here are some samples of the charts.

What I like about this though is the fact that Ogalala doesn’t stop at telling you which milestones to look out for. They have actually prepared worksheets for each age group, wherein there’s a schedule of suggested activities, goals and materials to be used. These worksheets also come with a tracking checklist, which makes it so easy for the parent or caregiver to keep track of which stage they’re already in. In case you need more information though, you can also join their Ogalala Workshop, similar to the one we attended last Saturday.  The workshops are held at the Ogalala Playroom at Richwell Center, Timog Ave., Quezon City. This is what the playroom looks like. It’s very colorful and there are several displays of toys available for kids of all ages.

On this table are various toys and learning materials, properly labeled with the different age groups.

Ogalala prepared this yummy dessert spread for us. Behind this table is the closed play area where kids can stay while Mommy and Daddy are listening during the workshop.

There really are a lot of educational toys to choose from. It’s so fun to be a kid these days! We didn’t have these things growing up. I’m pretty sure all the other parents who were there that day learned a lot too.

Oh and yeah, I won in the raffle. Lucky me! Ziggy was asked to pick my prize and he chose this Baby Einstein Bath Book. Yay!
