Christmas 2015 is on the way, and it is time to prepare. It seems as if we have only just finished the Christmas festivities from last year and we are ready to go again. To be honest, it doesn’t bother me because it is my favorite time of year. I love everyone getting together to celebrate and to see people that I only get to see once a year. Christmas really is special.
If I am completely truthful, I love the festive period for another reason – the decorations! Yes, I am one of those people that love to cover every space with lights and wreaths and cards, and I don’t apologize for it either! In fact, I embrace it every December.
If you are like me, here are a few tips to make your home feel special this Christmas time.
Make An Advent Calendar
There is no better way to usher in Christmas than with an advent calendar. If you have little children, advent calendars add a lot to the experience. Plus, advent calendars are incredibly festive and great to look at. To make your own, take a frame and spray it with a gray or silver. Then, add boxes with treats and number them. Finally, add simple decorations like little trees or stars. Making an advent calendar is one of my favorites!
Get Creative With Wreaths
In my house, Christmas wreaths are a must as they are almost as important as the tree or mistletoe. Seriously, treat them with that much respect! Instead of towing the party line with wreaths, though, I like to get creative. I buy a couple of circular wreaths and stick them together. Then, I add two eyes and a nose and I have a snowman. Very Christmassy! It looks great on the front door and makes the exterior of the home seem more festive.
The Basic Tree
The tree is the centerpiece of Christmas decorations. Without one, my house does not seem the same on December 25th. So, buying one is the first step. My biggest tip is: keep the decorations simple. Start off small and then work your way up to the bigger pieces. Going overboard can ruin the style of the tree and make it seem cluttered and untidy. Fairy lights, candy canes, and a star are all you need in my book.
Display Your Cards
Your friends and family have taken the time to write you a card, so don’t throw it in a drawer. Display your cards on the mantelpiece like prize ornaments. They look great, but they also show everyone that you appreciate the thought. Plus, cards are a subtle touch, and subtle is always good at Christmas.
There are my tips. I hope they help you this Christmas!
[…] On the other hand, you don’t want the room to feel bare. One of my favorite tips is to invest in a quality rug. This gives your eyes something different to see. Moreover, it helps create the homely vibe without putting unnecessary items in the living room. Just remember to keep a space for the Xmas decorations! […]
