I was born and raised Catholic. However, even though I was educated in Catholic schools practically my entire student life, I am not what you would call a devout or a traditional Catholic. Nevertheless, I have a strong relationship with God and my belief in Him has not faltered a bit even during the most trying times of my life. Sometimes I am not able to attend Sunday mass and it has been a long time since I’ve had my last Confession but I do pray a lot. I don’t usually pray the traditional Catholic prayers. I talk to God in my own words, whenever and wherever I feel like it. As a Catholic but more importantly as a person, I try in my own way to always do good.
I desire to raise my kids the same way, with a strong, unwavering faith in God. And even if I’m not traditional, I do respect Catholic traditions such as the First Communion. I think it is a very important step to take as one builds a more solid relationship with God. Last week, Zoe was finally given that opportunity as she attended her First Communion rites on November 25 at the Church of Sto. Niño de Paz in Greenbelt.
The Communion rites was participated by the entire third grade batch of all GVS branches, which wasn’t all that big of a group, actually. But of the entire batch, my Zoe was chosen to be the Leader/Commentator for the ceremony. That was truly one of my proudest moments! The group practiced for three straight days in Greenbelt. Of course, as the Mom, I accompanied Zoe during those grueling practices even having to commute to the venue with her and Ziya so early in the morning. It was tiring, to say the least, but it was definitely worth it. Here are some photos of the event.
