Let me start this post with a disclaimer. Believe me when I say that I am not a brat….never have been and never will be. I am not lazy either. But I will admit to that fact that I grew up a pampered princess in the sense that our family always had a helper around to do the chores. It was a good thing too because there are 5 of us siblings and I don’t think my mom would have survived without a helper around.

Anyway, having a helper did not stop me from learning how to clean the house and do the laundry. The only thing it prevented me from doing was to learn how to cook. My mom was super terrified of us being hurt in the kitchen and so she never really encouraged us to do anything useful there aside from setting the table and preparing my parents coffee. It actually made me fear cooking and so I never really tried it except for the usual frying.

When I finally had my own family and moved to our own place, we always had a nanny and a helper too not because I didn’t want to do the chores or take care of my kids but because I was working full time and also taking my MBA. Apart from those weekends when the helpers were on leave, I never really had to do everything at home….until now.

We’ve been helper-less since September of last year. We have been searching high and low for a dependable helper but it seems like we can’t find one available. Apparently, everybody else I know are having helper problems as well. Honestly, if I could survive without a helper I won’t hire one. Sometimes having one is just a source of additional headache. Besides, being helper-less for months now has forced me to learn to cook, which is a very good thing. I discovered I wasn’t totally useless in the kitchen and it made me conquer my fear as well.

Being helper-less wouldn’t be such a problem for me if only I wasn’t expecting a baby. Also, aside from the daily chores, I still have to work. Though my work is also done at home, it also requires a significant amount of time. As it is now, I’m already struggling with everything that has to be done and I’m already pretty organized. People don’t call me OC for nothing. But with baby number three on its way any time in the next few weeks, I don’t really know if I can go without a helper at least for the next couple of months. Having a helper who will do all the household chores will help me focus on just Kai, the kids and work, which is already a lot. So, I’m hoping and praying that we’ll finally find a good one very soon or else……good luck to me.
