Yippee! It was Zoe and Ziya’s last day in school today! That means just one thing, it’s officially summer vacation. Yahoo!!! There is no doubt that the girls are happy and excited and so am I.
I am really looking forward to the summer vacation not only because of the fun things we plan to do but because of the fact that my stress will be lessened (hopefully!) because the girls don’t have classes. Don’t get me wrong, though. Of course, I value education and I make sure that my girls get the best education that we can afford. However, most moms would agree that the school year for grade school students can be very hectic and overwhelming. I’m not just talking about what it’s like for the students themselves but for the parents as well.
Things may vary in other schools but in Zoe and Ziya’s school, there’s always homework to do. They have homework EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Now that they’re older, the girls can pretty much do their homework on their own. However, I still have to be around because there are times when they can’t understand certain things and I have to help them. The school also requires that the parents sign on every homework. This wouldn’t be so hard if us moms have nothing else to do but of course, there are other chores, work and other stuff that occupy our mind and consume a lot of our time. That’s only talking about homework. In this school, like most schools, I guess, assign at least five projects before the end of every quarter. That is SO time-consuming to say the least because I help them with EVERY. SINGLE. PROJECT. Tiring? Oh yeah!!!
Aside from those (oh yes, there’s more!), there are endless school programs to attend that require not just money but of course, our presence as parents. I LOVE school programs and I love it when my girls perform, especially since they’re so good at it. It’s just that it can be pretty, well, tiring too.
I guess, the most tiring activity, though, does not involve anything that the school requires. For a work-at-home mom like me, the most tiring thing is to get up as early as 4:30 a.m. to prepare not just breakfast for the kids but also their lunch as well. That’s not really that big a deal except that I usually get to bed by 1:00 a.m. already and wake up a couple of times a night when Ziggy wakes up and asks for his milk. That leaves me with barely 4 hours of sleep a night. Also, the girls have a tendency not to get up when their alarm goes off and I usually have to keep going back to their room to drag them out of bed. Then I have to keep nagging them to hurry up and get dressed, eat and brush their teeth before their ride to school arrives. Can you say STRESSFUL?
So, those are all the things that will NOT be part of my life for the next two and half months. Thank God! I could really use a break.
HELLO SUMMER!!!!!!!!
