Rainy days are pretty much the bane of any kid’s existence, and who can blame them? Being confined to the indoors when you want to be running around barefoot outside in the sunshine can certainly put a damper on things. However rainy days can be just as fun as the ones filled with sunshine if you have plenty of rainy day activities to keep boredom at bay, and these five will do the trick:
1. Construct an indoor fort: Grab blankets, pillows, and chairs and build an indoor fort in the living room. Set up the chairs around the room and toss the blankets over them to mimic a fort or tent. Let their imaginations run wild as they construct rooms full of pillows that are perfect for spending the rest of the day eating popcorn or other favorite snacks and watching movies or playing games.
2. Finger-paint: Rainy days practically call for arts and crafts, and what better time to get out large sheets of construction paper and finger-paint than when you’re stuck inside? They’ll be able to get their hands dirty, which is something every kid loves to do, and you’ll have works of art that are perfect for framing and hanging on bedroom or game room walls.
3. Indoor bowling: When the kids are feeling especially restless and destructive indoor bowling is the perfect cure. Get a bunch of empty water bottles and a squishy or foam ball and let the bowling games begin! Knocking over empty plastic bottles will keep the mess to a minimum, and they’ll get to let out some pent-up frustration at being forced to stay indoors.
4. Have a dance party: There’s no better way to shake off the rainy day blues then playing your favorite tunes and dancing them away. You can teach them dances that were popular when you were growing up and they can show you their favorite way to dance. You can even have a dance off where each person can showcase their signature moves.
5. Play board games: Board games are the perfect rainy day activity, and something the whole family can have fun playing. Let each person pick a different game and then move from one game to the next to keep everyone engaged and entertained.
While rainy days typically mean restless kids and constant, “I’M BORED!!” statements, these activities will help turn a rainy day into a fun one. Don’t waste a rainy day by spending it in front of the television or playing video games, use any or all of these activities instead!
