There are a lot of things I believe in. For instance, I believe that every one of us in this world is connected in some way. This means that whatever we do in our little space in the world will affect everybody else one way or another. That is why I have always tried to do good and help out those in need in any way I can. That is also one reason why working for non-profit organizations has always been very appealing to me.
I have been working for non-profit organizations since I graduated from college. I have worked for two non-profits whose main goal is to help promote Philippine coffee and help local farmers boost production. Aside from that, I have also worked for a non-profit whose aim is to support local small and medium-scale entrepreneurs who are expanding their businesses by way of franchising. Those experiences were very enriching and fulfilling to me knowing that I have been a part of something that helps better people’s lives.
Two years ago, when I became a SAHM/WAHM, that desire to help out never diminished. However, it became challenging for me to find opportunities to do good for others because it wasn’t easy for me to leave the house whenever I wanted to. Being a full-time mom to three kids while working part-time from home is not an easy thing to do. Still I searched for other alternatives wherein I can participate in worthwhile activities while I’m in the comforts of my home. That’s when I discovered the site of Mom Bloggers for Social Good
Mom Bloggers For Social Good is a group of over 1000 mom bloggers from seventeen countries who use their blogs as a platform to share the amazing work that non-profits and NGOs do around the world. It was exactly what I was searching for! Finally, I could stay at home and still do something to help other people from all over the world.
If that wasn’t good enough, Mom Bloggers For Social Good made an announcement a few months back that they were creating an off-shoot to the group. This new group will be composed of a highly specialized group of 200 members from Mom Bloggers For Social Good, who will focus on the issues involving women and girls, children, world hunger and maternal health. I was immediately interested because, as a mom and a woman, these are all issues that are close to my heart. This new group is called the Global Team of 200.
Global Team of 200
There was an application and selection process. I had to fill up an application form and convince them why I think I’d be an asset to the group. After some time, the selection team finally emailed me and said that I had been selected. Yahoo! I was ecstatic. Apparently, there were a lot of applicants and it took them some time to select the best of the best and I was one of them. I am so proud and honored to have been selected. I have been browsing the members list and so far, I think I’m one of only two Filipinas who made it to the list. That is such an achievement, to think that I am just your ordinary, regular work-at-home mom. The other one is Noemi Lardizabal – Dado, whose blogs have already garnered so many awards. Apart from that, she is also the Editor of Blog Watch Citizen Media and Features Editor of the Philippine Online Chronicles. I am so not in her level. I am not a celebrity. I’m not even a very popular blogger yet. However, I am truly passionate about this and I guess, that’s what matters most.
Anyway, I am announcing this to you guys to let you know that you can anticipate at least two posts a month on this blog that will highlight the work of various organizations around the world that focus on the issues I mentioned above. You can help too! You are all invited to re-share the posts to others as well so that more people will be informed about these very important issues.  It may sound cliche to others but I truly believe that each one of us can do our part to change the world, one small step at a time. Let’s do this!
