I am so happy that I am blogging about this now because it only means one thing – my girls’ field demo for the Foundation Day  in school is over! Finally! Don’t get me wrong. I was anticipating this event for a while now because the Foundation Day celebration (which actually lasts for a whole week) is one of the biggest events in their school. Of course, I was excited as usual to see Zoe and Ziya perform with their class. The thing is, though, for us this was the most hectic event of all.
Let me explain. About 3 1/2 weeks ago, during a Parent-Teacher Conference, Ziya’s teacher told us about the upcoming event and said that the theme for the grade 4 class was going to be Panagbenga, which is a flower festival celebrated in Baguio City. He asked for parents who could volunteer to help with costumes,  props and even the choreography of the dance. Since I was trying to be helpful, and since I knew my hubby was very good with costumes and props, I volunteered him. Haha! Well, he was glad to do it. However, the fact is, there were two different headdress designs – one for boys and one for girls. We ended up having to do 61 headdresses in total. Oh, and not only that. We were also asked to do the banner as well. As if the 61 headdresses were not enough. Hayz!
It really took a toll on us, especially on my hubby because he works full time and so the only time he could do all the headdresses and banner was after work, which is usually his sleeping time. Needless to say, he lost a lot of sleep. He really is the best, though. I have to find some way to thank him for being the best stepdad ever.
So anyway, here’s the finished product. Voila!
Doesn’t the banner look nice? It’s made out of bamboo poles and banig. It actually took my hubby only half a day (with lunch break!) to finish it. I helped by cutting out the letters from styrofoam. Haha!
Here’s my flower girl, Ziya, with the headdress, costume and basket. So cute, right? The only thing I don’t really like are the flowers on the costume. The costume was made by someone else who did not follow the sample photo given to us. The flowers were supposed to be sunflowers and the ones on the costumes were rosettes. Oh well!

Below you can see what the boys’ headdresses look like. Nice, right? It was really great seeing them all with the headdresses. They were so colorful and cheerful-looking!

Of course, Zoe was part of the event too. The grade 5 class theme was Karatong Festival. We didn’t participate in any way here because the class opted to have their costumes bought. The only thing they made themselves were the yellow cloth thing hanging from their waists.

Here’s Zoe in front, as usual. The grade 5 dance performance was actually better than the grade 4 dance. But, the grade 4 costumes are nicer, of course. What can I say? I’m a big fan of my hubby’s work. Haha!
The photo below was taken after the event. Ziggy was so happy seeing his big sisters in costume and seeing them dance. He was dancing around by himself too. So cute!
Well, like I said, I’m glad the event is over. At least, hubby can rest now. One less thing to worry about. Lesson learned – don’t volunteer for such a big job again next year. Haha!
