Last week, I blogged about the advocacy of PLDT-Smart Foundation called Gabay Guro (2G), a program for teachers that abides by it’s slogan, “Changing the lives of those who changed ours”.

It was the first time I heard about it and was so pleased when I did because I really believe in the importance of teachers in our kids’ lives. I also think that the teachers in our country are one of the most underpaid yet the most hardworking people. We really should do what we can in order to help them improve their lives in the same way that they help us educate our children.

I was really so honored to be invited to attend the Gabay Guro event organized by PLDT-Smart Foundation to celebrate Teachers Month. The event took place last Saturday, October 26 at the SM MOA Arena.

The event promised to be a fun event for teachers and indeed it was. It was my first time at the Arena and didn’t know what to expect. So, when I was greeted with this sight I was totally amazed. The huge area was packed with teachers!

You can really feel the teachers’ excitement. The teachers who surrounded me when I sat were all chatting and laughing, happily anticipating what will happen at the event. I couldn’t help but be excited myself.

The program started with a lot of singing and dancing already. The first part was hosted by Bianca Manalo with Dax and Joel O. The Gabay Guro Band joined them for the first several rounds of songs that engaged the audience to dance and enjoy themselves.

There were a lot of performers from the TV networks, ABS-CBN, GMA7 and TV5.  One of the first to come out was Marian Rivera, who I saw for the first time that day. The crowd went wild when Marian went to the audience to pick a few teachers who will dance with her on stage.

Several TV5 hunks including Daniel Matsunaga also came on stage. They played a common party game called the Newspaper Dance with several very lucky and very enthusiastic female teachers. It was indeed one of my favorite parts of the whole event because the teachers were so funny!

Other celebrities that graced the occasion include the adorable Ryzza Mae, Matteo Guidicelli, Anne Curtis, Richard Gomez, Pops Fernandez, Edu Manzano, Derek Ramsay and Judy Ann Santos among others.

The teachers were very lucky indeed because there were so many prizes raffled off during the entire event. The most important prizes of all were the brand new Foton L200 brand and of course, a house and lot courtesy of Stateland Inc. Congratulations to the winners!

It was such a fun event, one that I’m sure will always be fondly remembered by the teachers who were lucky enough to attend. I really felt the love for all teachers that day. Happy Teachers Month to all teachers! More power to Gabay Guro. I hope they continue changing the lives of teachers because it’s something they truly deserve.

  1. I remember, when I was young.. I want to be a teacher too. I adore my Elementary teachers that’s why I wanted to be one also. I love arts & craft & i want to teach it to the little children.. but when reach my high school graduation.. my mind change. When my younger sister & two other cousins.. took education.. i feel the love again.. hehehe.. now i am encouraging my youngest daughter who is in her secondary education now to be a teacher someday. I hope she can fulfill my dream but if she wanted to be anybody.. I will support her all the way! 🙂

  2. This looks like such a fun event & it makes me want to look up to see if there are any kind of events for teachers in my area. I graduated with my Master’s in early childhood education this August and am currently a substitute teacher.
