If you’ve been reading my blog lately, you’d know that I’m pregnant with my fourth child. Of course, since this is my fourth child, I can’t expect anyone to throw me a baby shower anymore. The first and last baby shower anybody organized for me was during my first pregnancy.

So, I was really excited to have been invited to attend the Smart Parenting Baby Shower last April 3, 2016 at Discovery Suites in Ortigas. Smart Parenting is the largest parenting news and lifestyle brand in the country and they celebrate the joy and thrills of the first stages of being a mother with an annual Baby Shower.

During the event, Smart Parenting together with Downy Baby Gentle, gave mothers first-hand information about the importance of choosing baby-friendly products that are tested by dermatologists and certified safe for baby’s sensitive skin.

There were also booths from other merchants there such as Mamaway, Tiny Buds, Giant Carrier, Baby Plus, La Dolce Vita, and Babymama.ph.

I really appreciated visiting the different booths because I’m currently canvassing for baby stuff that we still need to buy for our little one.

I was excited though for the different talks because even if I’ve been a mom for almost 15 years already, I know there’s still a lot for me to learn. There are so many new developments in terms of parenting and these talks are great avenues to learn more about them.

There were 4 talks in all:

Talk 1: Importance of Gentle Softness on Baby’s Skin by Dr. Jamie Isip-Cumpas (expert from the Philippine Pediatric Society)

Talk 2: Birthing Methods by Ms. Betty San Luis and her husband (Ms. Betty is the main Childbirth Mentor of Birthing is a Blessing; a certified Doula with Childbirth International (CBI), a global training organization committed to establishing international standards for childbirth education programs and doula training. She also conducts Childbirth Preparation Classes and nurtures birthing mothers through her Doula Support Service.)

For me, this was the most informative talk because I learned a lot more about Water Birth. I’ve been really curious about it and wanted to know how it works here in the country and whom I can talk to in case it’s something I’d like to pursue.

Talk 3: Baby Sign Language by Ms. Sharon Agoncillo – Galang (Independent Certified Instructor (ICI) of the Baby Signs® Program and a passionate speaker with 18 years of hands-on experience on the different fields of Early Education, Training and Development, Training Management and Leadership)

Talk 4: Breastfeeding by Ms. Zenaida Feliciano (an executive turned Breastfeeding Coach who helped set-up the first Prenatal Lactation Clinic in the Philippines at the Asian Hospital. )

We were also treated to a nice surprise when a special guest speaker was called in to share about her motherhood experiences. It turned out to be first-time celebrity mom, Bianca Gonzales-Intal.

Aside from the talks, there were two other activities that moms were able to join. The first one was a prenatal yoga session conducted by Urban Ashram.

I didn’t join the yoga session though but I did join the crafting segment called Scribble Onesies by writer, stylist and travel blogger, Coni Tejada. We were all given plain bibs and were asked to decorate it for our baby using some fabric paint.

I chose a pink bib even though we don’t know our baby’s gender yet. But I’m already claiming it’s a girl! Haha! We’ll see in a few months.

Of course, what’s a baby shower without games and prizes? There were lots of both! I didn’t win anything but that’s okay. There were plenty of very lucky moms. Just check out what the major prizes were courtesy of Giant Carrier.

Although not every one won a prize, we all got to take home swag bags, that included Downy Baby Gentle goodies among others.

That’s me beside the event host (and one of my favorite celebrity moms) Delamar Arias, together with fellow mommy bloggers.

It was a really fun and educational experience. I’m glad I was able to experience it at least once. Thank you, Smart Parenting and Downy Baby Gentle for inviting me!

  3. You know what, I hoped for a baby shower event last year when I was preggy, pero nada! Hahaha! 😀 I agree that even for not-first-time moms, we still learn new information through the years of motherhood. Andaming bago or luma pero lately lang nalaman. 😀 We haven’t tried the Downy Baby Gentle yet. I’ll check it out next time… Take care, Mommy Janice and Baby Girl (claiming it!) 🙂

  4. Nice! I honestly silently wished that someone from my group of friends throw a baby shower party for me when I was still pregnant. It did happen but it was an intimate event and there’s no grand food and gifts. It’s more of like a gathering before I give birth to my son. I wish I could join smart parenting’s baby shower around 3-4 years from now, maybe? Hihi

  5. wow Nice!!! I wish this was available when I was pregnant. lol! I bet you guys had fun!

  11. This event looks super fun! I was interested too about water birth (unfortunately my sipitsipitan is too tiny and will not fit Bunny’s head) and was reading up about it. You can try contacting doulas if you want to know more. 🙂 Ms.Velvet from Breastfeeding Pinays is a doula.
