Last year, my family and I went to join the Nickelodeon Slime Cup Run 2016 at the SM MOA grounds. Actually, since I was still pregnant with Zander then, I was just a cheerleader while hubby and our kids, Zoe, Ziya and Ziggy, joined the race. We had a lot of fun then. So, when we got an invitation again to join this year’s Nickelodeon Slime Cup Run we said yes.

Thankfully, this year’s Nickelodeon Slime Cup Run was held last May 28 at McKinley West, which is nearer to us compared to last year’s venue. We got there at 5 am, way too early than what was necessary. We’re happy though that we actually got to wear singlets this time around because we weren’t given any last year.

We were concerned about bringing Zander with us because he was only 8 months old then. Surprisingly, it wasn’t any trouble at all hauling him and the rest of our brood at 4:30 am. Zander was also pretty much cooperative the whole time we were at the venue even though it was so hot. By the time our 2K fun run started though, he was already asleep. Haha!

Last year, there were some fun obstacles during the race. This year was no different but there were actually more to do. I tried to take photos of the obstacles during the race but had a hard time because racing was exhausting! It was also so hot that my eyes couldn’t really focus much on my camera phone. So, this was the best I could do.

There was even this part of the course wherein people dressed as “balls” tried to “bump” the racers from the course. All in good fun, of course!

The 2k run was actually a family race and it was encouraged to race as a family. But because I wasn’t fit enough to match hubby’s and my other kids’ pace (plus I had to take photos!), I trailed behind. Ziya joined me though. Zoe and Ziggy raced together while hubby raced while pushing sleeping Zander in the stroller. Haha! So, we all finished at different times but it was all good.

Last year, hubby and the kids got slimed twice at the end of the race and I was able to capture them in photos. This year though, we chose not to get slimed anymore because we felt it would be so hectic with the baby. Plus, we were set to go to a doctor’s appointment after and were concerned it would take longer for us to shower if we got slimed, especially since the Slime Sprinkler Machine this year was WAY bigger than last year’s. We still had fun without the slime though!

Oh, and there’s a little secret that I found out about how they make the slime. They’re made of okra! Yes, okra the vegetable. I was really surprised by that. But it makes sense because okra is slimy and they had to make sure the slime would be edible so that it’s safe for the kids.

It wasn’t just about the people racing though. There was also a race for pets. The pets also enjoyed this booth that was set up just for them.

After the race, we had some food and watched the show on stage. The Paw Patrol characters graced the occasion and so did the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (wasn’t able to take a photo of them though).

There were also several booths with games but we weren’t able to play any because it was way too hot already by then. Overall, we did enjoy this experience. We love the venue this year and the obstacles in the race. The shower stalls are also better this year though there were still long lines. I just wish that they had more tents with tables and chairs for the families with little kids to use because it can get really hot and uncomfortable. More food and drink stalls would have been great too.

So, are we going to join next year’s Nickelodeon Slime Cup Race? Well, I guess we’ll see.

Thanks for inviting us, Nickelodeon!
