Do you want to expose your kids to the arts? To sculptures, specifically? Well then, you might want to check out an exhibit that just launched yesterday representing one of the greatest Filipino artists.

Have you heard of Eduardo Castrillo? You should know that he’s a multi-awarded artist both locally and internationally. Over the last four decades, he has created not only nationalist and historical monuments but also environmental art, abstract pieces, functional art pieces, art jewelry and body sculptures, liturgical arts, among others. Some of his popular work that you might recognize include the People Power Monument, the Inang Bayan Monument, and the Lapu-Lapu Shrine.

Opening on May 8 – 17, 2014, Art Park will feature Castrillo in a six month long exhibition with large scale abstract pieces at the 2nd Floor of Greenbelt 5 Gallery-Activity Area next to Adora Store. Do visit this amazing exhibit to see his exceptional work.

Your kids can join in the fun too! Here’s how. To mark the end of the exhibition on May 17 (Sunday), a Children’s Art Drawing Contest will be held. It is an on-the-spot art competition that will be held from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm. The activity is open to the general public. Children ages 7 – 12 are invited to participate and draw any of their favorite Castrillo pieces on exhibit. Art materials will be provided and prices will be given by the Sculptor Castrillo at the end of the day.

The day will also be marked by the launch of a coloring book for children entitled “Color Our Heroes: Monuments by Eduardo Castrillo”. It features several images of Castrillo’s historical monuments around the country. This is the first endeavor under the Eduardo Castrillo Art Management Company, Inc., which will be bringing cultural education to the youth, especially public school children.

  2. It’s great to expose kids to art, even at such a young age. For now, my son enjoys painting and making a mess of his Play Dos.

  3. oh wow. My 8-year old is more of a cartoonist and graphics artist but it would’ve been a lovely activity for him to join. All he would really need is a set of pastels or paints. Sayang, hubby would be out of town that day and it would be impossible for me to take all three kids on public transpo. 🙁
