Ever since I was a tween, I’ve always wanted to enroll in a Personality Development course at John Robert Powers. I was a shy and quiet kid back then and I wanted to learn how to be more sociable. However, I was never able to enroll for some reason. But nevertheless, I’ve always been aware of John Robert Powers’ reputation as a premier school for not only personality development but also communications as well. Well, two weeks ago, I was finally able to set foot inside John Robert Powers in Makati.

During my short stay in John Robert Powers that day, I’ve learned a lot about how the company has grown over the past several years. They have more programs in place now. I also learned that they have an impressive line up of  JRP graduates, which include Sarah Geronimo, Jessica Sanchez and Matteo Guidicelli to name a few. John Robert Powers, who has several branches worldwide, also boasts of other internationally-known graduates, some of which you can see on this photo below. Impressive, right?

I also finally got to take a look at their facilities because they were kind enough to give us a quick tour. You can see here the various classrooms, coaching rooms, board rooms and even a make-up room. It must really be very exciting to be enrolled in JRP and take your classes here.

Honestly, at this point in my life, what I want is to be able to send my kids to JRP, especially Zoe and Ziya, who are now approaching their teen years. During one of the presentations conducted that day, we were asked for our opinions about what we want our kids to be when they grow up. I think most of us moms just want our kids to be successful in whatever profession they choose. But, how can we help make sure that they have all the capabilities and skills they need to succeed? Is it really all about getting the highest grades in their academics and bagging as may awards as they can get? That may be the traditional way of thinking. However, studies have shown that there’s a lot more to success than just high grades and awards.

While academics are of course, still important, what most schools are unable to really teach are the soft skills. How do they properly present themselves to others? How do they make friends and learn to empathize? How do they make important decisions in life? How do they become confident in themselves and what they can offer to the world? These are concerns that must be addressed as well if we want our kids to grow up successful leaders of the future. So, how do we address this? Here’s how John Robert Powers can help.

THE FUTURE LEADERS PROGRAM

One of the best things that can help our children become successful is to develop their leadership skills. But did you know that these skills are best developed during their formative years? So as parents, we must take advantage of this opportunity to teach our kids these kids now that they’re still young.

The three basic values of leadership that we must teach include Selflessness, Respect and Cooperation. Aside from these, they should also learn the four basic leadership skills: Decision-making, Effective Communication, Negotiation and Forecasting/Planning. These are what John Robert Power’s new Future Leaders Program teaches kids.

Here’s more info about the program.

The Future Leaders Program of John Robert Powers was developed based on the premise that every child has the potential for success. The program aims to properly nurture this potential by developing the child’s leadership values and skills that are not only vital in his success in school and work but also instrumental in living a happy and fulfilling life. The program is carefully structured with the intent of creating fun classes for children that will help them develop a positive sense of self, confidence and independence.

The Future Leaders is a 60-hour program that is inclusive of an all-year-round refresher course. The successful integration of the John Robert Powers’ Personality Development, Oral Communication and Creative Writing programs makes for an exceptional learning experience for children and creates a strong foundation for their promising future. Specific topics under the 4 modules of Personality Development which include Personal Transformation, Effective Communication, Social Graces and Image Enhancement were carefully selected to create a course that promotes the basic values and skills of leadership.

THE DYNAMIC PARENTING WORKSHOP

There’s no question about how vital this training is for our children. But what’s important also is for us as parents to reinforce these at home. To help us do just that, John Robert Powers has also come up with a workshop just for parents.

The Dynamic Parenting Workshop is designed to empower parents who seek to improve their sense of personality in general and parenting in particular. The program consists of ten (10) different topics relevant to the formation of a more constructive and responsive parenting approach. The topics will be as follows:

  1. Parenting and Family Organization in the Contemporary Setting
  2. Parenting Styles and Children Discipline Strategies
  3. Parenting and Child Motivation
